Local ktv, a lot across the Jap bridge. These KTVs are frequent only by khmer men.

local ktv is where most of the locals go and it is not Casa or Naga. Champ Elysees is rated among the top 3 local karaokes..i leave it to you to find out the other two..ask any local and they should know..one is at the end of monivong road and the other one is behind Tonle Bassac Restaurant which serves good buffets at reasonable price.

I assume you are referring to the Echo KTV just behind Tonle Bassac. Yup, been there twice, didn't impress me much but then I'm biased against KTV's so don't mind me none.

I don't even go to the bars much which doesn't mean I don't. It's still good and affordable to have a few drinks with friends.

Learnt Thai 25 years ago in Sydney, of all places but that is another story.

Been here 2 years and a few months now, started learning only after a year or so, the 'easy' way, with the assistance of a long-haired walking dictionary (WD). Well, there are both pros and cons with this path. The pros being the WD is able to be on call most of the time; you are able to learn words commonly used by the countryside and seldom the city folks , which, used by a foreigner like myself, never ceased to cause mirth among the Cambodians; dirty words, lame pickup lines, stuff like that, things never taught in classrooms.

The cons being the WD can develop an attitude and give you lip; the WD I have speaks no more than 10 words of English so there's a limit to what she can teach me. To get around this, I go online to get the word I need translated online, then get the WD to read off the screen the Khmer script.

The process is slow and at times tedious but there's no big hurry. I learned that you have to use the words you learned or it will be forgotten, fast.

There's a new method of learning Khmer by the Natural Khmer school. Lessons at $4 per. No books, no notes, nothing. And you're not even supposed to speak Khmer in class! You have 2 teachers. They have a subject matter of the day e.g. At The Market, and these 2 teachers will play roles of buyer and seller, you know, asking for prices, bargaining etc, all in slow Khmer. Every lesson a different subject. You don't need an appointment, just sit in whenever. Comments are quite favorable. Check it out here naturalkhmer.com. Champ Elysees is 1 of the worst KTV I have been to. If u need a better KTV, a better KTV sound system, better gers, u can ask me.

When u step into the ktv, it smell badly.

The worst part, gers are allowed to butterfly. First time in Cambodia, I encountered this. End of night mummy still bring asst to come n collect tip.

Bro and which local karaoke are you comparing too? As already said, this is local karaoke and not Casa, Naga, Phnom Penh Hotel standard..I have stayed in Cambodia for more than 5 years and been to Champ Elysees many times..the girls never butterfly unless something is wrong..no locals to chat too..no one spoke Khmer..anyway I am all ears to hear your recommendation..jong leu bong nai noam

You have to compare apple with apple..and the only local ones I would think is good is X.O and Cobra 1 or 2 if you have been there. However, if you prefer fair girls to dark skin girls, no point venturing to local karaokes..as Casa is still the best for Vietnamese..enjoy your stay there bro..
