Actually, to exchange foreign currencies in China is very troublesome. What I am doing is to exchange with friends who are coming to China. They would deposit SGD into my POSBANK/UOB and I will either give them in Cash or e-banking into their respective banks in China. Save a lot of hassles but you need to have such friends.

There are a few ways.
1. Change at the bank. Most banks have this service, but you need to set up an appointment with them though. They don't "store" so much SGD daily at the counters. But the limit is USD50k per year, i think.
2. The limit for bringing rmb out of china might be 20k. i am not very sure. of course you can always try your luck.
3. how large is large? 1 mil and above? anyway, if you want to exchange your large amount of rmb into cash like SGD, there are
a. underground exchanger where you deposit into their designated bank accounts here and you get it over in SGD in spore.
b. there are ppl providing such services "within" the bank. if you're in shanghai, let me know. i can give you his number.
