I thought I will ask this question here since it is related to remittance.

I would like to open a bank account in LOS. Mabbe with Siam Commercial Bank? Any recommendations? Just bring the passport will do? Any other documentation required?

This will eventually be a bank account for me to remit money into. So which bank will you recommend?

not all banks/branches will let u open with a tourist visa, but so far kasikorn was the highest success rate amongst my friends.

Hi Bro

For non local can only open bangkok bank for waht i noe cos i am having a BKK bank also.I've ask all the bank they say cannot.But Bkk bank u need to have a local address for them and u just need 500bhat to open a account.

Just tell them that you are working in thailand and need ur family to send money over.100% approved.

bro exchange rate is abt 22.8-9 but remit rate is $10-$23, $12-$23.10

When all fails... if you deperately want to fly to BKK, you can direct approach which ever airline to book a standby ticket. If some good soul no show on the day of travel, the airport check-in counter staff will callup all the standby passenger to fly, first come first serve.

den if unable to show ur work permit u think they will believe?
anyways, if 1 branch cannot, just go to the next 1, try to avoid the touristy area branches.

i got mine opened at bangkok bank suttisan branch. went in with a certified copy of my pp, and was told no work permit, cant open. so i called customer service hotline and told them i wasnt allowed to open, but i needed a savings account etc and i have a certified copy of my passport, apparently a while later the same counter girl tt turned me down came back and said her manager gives the nod. so viola! out i came with a VISA card as well LOL

on 31-Dec-07, I changed at GM, SIN. Rate was 22.85
on 2-Jan-08, I changed at MBK, BKK. Rate was 22.97

Just got back from BKK.
Observed that the exchange rates at most places there, are better than in SIN. (0.1 - 0.2 difference)

Share my experience on opening account.......I went to Bangkok Bank main branch in Silom.....you need a letter of recommendation from a company or reputable local thai customer of the bank.....got minimum deposit but cannot recall amount

My bank accounts over here are from Ayudya Bank... Didn't show any documentation.

In fact, didn't even give my full name, so the name on the account is just my surname.
