Norikasan,

You broughtup a good topic, per my friend who is a licensed electrician from Honolulu, inspected several electrical wiring and sockets in hotels in Bangkok and condos in Pattaya. He said, "the electrical worksmenship is shady/below par, he recommended that everyone who owns a apartments or condos have smoke detectors in every room!"

When I rent an apartment or condo, first thing I would do is to purchase several smoke detectors and evaluate fire escape route from your unit.

All the renters and owners of apartment or condos in Bangkok, do you own several smoke detectors?

From my experience in Bangkok, don't rely on Thai too much, if you need somethins go buy it yourself, forget about getting assistance from Thais! You don't need fire extinguishers, just buy several smoke detectors for your own safety!

I finally got rid of my jet lag! It took me 8 days to get a normal sleep. I got to move to Bangkok permanently soon. I miss those cheap feet massage with facials.

You made a good point, majority of renters of apartments or condos in bangkok, their top priority is cost and the location. What about health and safety? Therefore, next time when you rent an apartment or condos in Bangkok, make sure all the health and safety issues are addressed!

Also, before making a final decision go around the unit and turn on all the water faucets and showers full blast and then flush the toilet! See how the toilet flush after all the water is turn on, if the water pressure in the toilet is adequate then you're lucky. You don't want golden nuggets floating around when your sweety/honey wants to use the toilet! It happened to me once in Grand President in Bangkok. It was very embarrassing for me because she was very attractive and not a working girl!

As with most things, when i doubt go for the most expensive.....price is a good guide.....the more "hi class" area should be the exclusive embassy row Sathorn & Wireless Road & surrounding areas......other areas where rich farangs stays also a good indicator

i am staying in narathivas road. near to sathorn. i am renting a studio apartment of 30m square at 11000bt. this excludes water and electricity bill. i need to pay about 15000 inclusive of the water and electricity, ubc, internet. etc.

Since you own a car and drive so the proximity from your apartment to BTS or MRT is not that important. Theres no way I can drive in Bangkok, I would get shot within a week because I can't stand drivers who cut front of me! While I'm driving, I use my horns frequently and flipped the birds several times a week. Thank goodness, I didn't get beaten up by a hoodlum,

When time to select an apartment in Bangkok, the proximity to BTS and MRT is very important in selecting an apartment. Everyone knows in Bangkok, if the apartment is close to BTS or MRT, you're going to pay higher rent! Someday, I hope to find an apartment with reasonable distence from BTS or MRT!

Wow, you can't find a decent studio for less than 20,000B in lower Sukhumvit! I've heard that within 2 - 3 years, the price will drop significantly.
