browsed through the pictures of tobita shinchi, looks creepy. and comparing price stated by some reviews, it's apparently more expensive than yoshiwara's medium class shops.

You could always try Ogoto if you keen to travel further.
DO exercise extra caution for people who traveling to these places. There is currently a Yakuza war that is ongoing in Japan.

And yes, there are guns, explosives etc, I doubt it will affect these business in general, but do exercise extra caution when traveling to red light district and drinking area etc.

did a search using japanese fuzuoku search engines. it seems like in osaka city itself, there are no soapies like yoshiwara type. nearest would be kobe. is that true?

Yes, that is true. Kobe or Ogoto Onsen.
I have yet to explore Ogoto but Kobe soap is pretty not friendly to foreigners, heck.. Kansai people are the lesser friendly people I have ever met, especially if you are Chinese (don't believe in their bulls*it stereotyping that Kansai people are friendly, they are not..)

Plus do remember that, the current Yakuza war, one of the parties involved has their HQ in Kobe. Do exercise caution when traveling to these places.

Would like to thank the lovely sempais in this thread for their very helpful posts that helped build my foundation to achieving my first 2 successful trysts in Tokyo! Had a jap FL one night and a delivery health service on another afternoon. In a nut shell, this alone took hours of research and google translating, as maneuvering the city's many rules behind the game is like a mine field, so much so that it can really take alot of the fun and mood away. Finding their location could also be mind boggling given that they dont often place distinct addresses where you can just hit into google maps. One thing I would add is that if you do have a decent grasp of japanese (of which I hadn't - I was just N5 level ), life would probably be a whole lot easier. As I was travelling alone, I did not physically go door to door to try my luck but did most of my shopping online and over the phone.

Onto the juicier part, for the delivery health experience, there are really SO many options available that it is simply mind blowing. Practically every genre you can find on a typical AV website, and more - there were options for any preference you can think of. Note that most if not all were upgrades that cost additional. So as a first timer, I went full YOLO and picked some of the craziest options available, and boy was it a blast. Childhood hentai dreams fulfilled! They even gave me a member card for return purposes haha! Very impressive customer service though, couple of security loops to jump through but they were all very nice and professional about verification.

Would I attempt it again in japan? I suspect that after my first painful initiation rites, I'll prob get the hang of it a little better and the experience should get a lot smoother hopefully, so hell yeah, but probably go for something more mainstream this time.. and yes, gotta brush up on the language ~_~

In the most part, the issue of language is actually on the Japanese themselves. Most of them are probably either do not speak any English or not willing to speak any etc, this in general, becomes the main issue why some Japanese establishment might not accept foreigners (though most the times this also depends on the girls themselves, as in soaplands, there are girls that are willing to take foreigners and those who will not.)

Also on issue on improper attitude/etiquette by the non-Japanese, few years back, the Mainland Chinese were briefly banned to enter most establishment due to their...*cough* unruly behaviour. Which is why SG bros should put up their best behaviours in these places so subsequent trips by any other SG bros will be more convenient.

In recent years, there are more delivery health service dedicated for foreigners, there is one that recently (I think last year) established to serve solely foreigners. (I did a check on their Job post in Japanese, they seems legit as they are mainly seeking JP girls for the post, but we will never know). Another famous one is the one with a LOT AV stars, but if I remember right 90min is 100K yen or more (this one had English notice/form/site for foreigners about 1.5 years ago).

Though for soaplands in Tokyo, going solo might be easier to gain entry, as I mentioned before, these establishments are more wary of non-Japanese groups going together (might cause more ruckus and such with big group etc.) Just remember to play nice, be respectful of their country (do not use the term "Jap" ever) and keep trying.
