Bro Tony,
To me the cheapest way to go to CP is via Hong Kong and then from Hung Hom, we can take the train. I just posted the train schedule in CP thread. I think there are more budget airline flight from Singapore to Hong Kong rather than Macau unless you have other business to attend there. Alternatively, if budget airline is concern, From Guangzhou is not a bad route too and there is the same train schedule is actually plying from Guangshou East station to Hung Hom station. In Hong Kong, you can take MTR from airport to Hung Hom station but I don't know whether that can be done in Guangzhou airport.

Saying this, I remember I took that train to CP on my first mission there and met you at night !!!!

Yes the Guangshen Intercity Train is the best option for you.
The other convenient option is to use Trans Island Bus.

For Guangzhou you've to take private or public transport from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport
to Guangzhou Railway Station to catch a train to Dongguan Station (CP).
