Key word is wealthy. Of course if I have $50million i would also like to live and retire in SG. Its a no brainer. But the issue here is that most of us are only getting by. Inflation is eating us alive slowly but surely while wages are stagnant. If you are young, sure can chiong and upgrade yourself find better paying jobs. But letme tell you ageism is real in SG. Once you reach the age if >45 years old, good luck to you trying to find a job, any job that isn't grab or foodpanda. That is the reality in SG. If you don't have deep pockets or savings or your savings are mainly in CPF to see you through your old age, better spend the CPF wisely in countries where you can leverage the strong exchange rate. And the only way to take out cpf is to give up citizenship. There is no other way. This is the hard truth

Bro
we are really trying to help you see how beneficial it is to retain your citizenship. not trying to put you down or what.
job market in sg i agree with you once you hit 40s. But its not a lot different in other countries unless you move to and can legally work in the top white men countries. That said, all the more you need retain your pink IC to rent out your HDB and get the rental income to enjoy life.
I dont get how delusional someone can be about "less people contributing to CPF than more people withdrawing from it". got more than 50% seniors (>65) in sg now???

Really give up on you. This my last attempt to help you. Wont do it anymore.
At least go read up and rethink about this. Dont die die feel your view is right.
Of course in the end you still want to throw your pink ic its your very right to do so. 1 less liability to feed in sg.

Nobody asking you to retire in sg. We are saying you should retain pink ic while you retire elsewhere.

Re: Lets talk about retirement

i been through very similar situation, planning, decisions, and had retired in overseas for over 15 years.

Everyone is in different situation n needs, future plans. Good to be more receptive towards others if views different from yours.

Some say keep sg citizenship, collect HDB rent n CPF payout to live overseas but some may prefer to collect one big lump sum n has better plans for it thus willing to give up citizenship. Thought ever crossed my mind.

Some say better go places w retirement visa.
For me (single) i would get bored in a country for too long, hv been travelling in Asia, staying less than a month w free visa in each country thanks to low costs of budget airlines.
Actually if u prefer 1st tier city in southern China, can stay in Shenzhen , u can easily make visa runs to HK monthly.Or choose some 2nd/3rd tier cities which borders Macau,Vietnam or Laos n vice versa.
Saves hazzle of flying out.

Some say better to rent overseas but i would prefer to own of course provided its not overpriced n intention is to stay often n long term, also may be a good investment.
Inform your will's beneficiaries of all overseas assets n bank accounts.

i have 1 question for you: do you get travel insurance? Like an annual plan? I heard the max coverage for annual travel insurance plan is only for up to 180 days a year. If you split it out into different periods, it does not cover > 180 days overseas in total per year.

is that true?

Re: Lets talk about retirement

I look into our Medishield coverage for oversea recently and found this

1) Basic Medisave plan does not cover any overseas medical bills at all, period.
2) The added on integrated shield plan does cover but a tiny fraction(5-15% depending on which plan you got) of the oversea treatment subjected to blah, blah, blah. And you will have to pay first and claim later. If claim successful, then you have to suck it up liow.
3) Most importantly, if you travel out of Singapore on 1 trip for more than 180 days. The integrated shield plan will also stop coverage.

So it either you some back SG for medical and chronic diseases treatment or you may need to look at TI. Most TI also stop coverage if you are out on a single trip for more than 90 days. So it is recommended you plan some trips back to SG yearly to "punch card".

more concerned about..... accidents instead of illnesses.
illnesses still have time to come back to sg to get treated or recovery.
accidents.... cant come back soon.
Talking about accidents, just had 1 friend met with an accident last month while visiting thailand. A serious one.

If worry about sickness n accident treatment, insurance claim, can consider retiring in JB .
Condo prices also cheap and easily managed from SG.

I guess for now , honestly, living in Malaysia but working in Singapore ( ie business owner), is a good way to go.

Enjoy the quality of a landed in JB ( ie ECO botanic side) but earning SGD in Singapore.

Really, on one hand, ask you to call Sg your "home", more like be slave contributing income tax and cpf
On another hand, ask you to go stay JB old folks home

Simple, once you expired your economic usefulness, you can call anywhere your home but not sg
