Auxiliary police fire shots at vehicle at Tuas Checkpoint Two shots were fired by an Auxiliary Police Officer at a vehicle at the Second Link Bridge after a vehicle suddenly reversed in a dangerous manner against the flow of traffic and towards officers. SINGAPORE: Auxiliary Police fired shots at a vehicle at the Second Link Bridge at Tuas Checkpoint on Tuesday night (Oct 27), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority confirmed on Wednesday. It said one vehicle suddenly reversed in a dangerous manner against the flow of traffic and towards officers. ICA's statement is as follows: On 27 October 2015 at about 11.45pm, two shots were fired by an Auxiliary Police Officer (APO) at a vehicle at the Second Link Bridge near the International Boundary (IB) before Tuas Checkpoint. Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers observed that four vehicles had stopped near the IB on the Second Link Bridge in the direction towards Singapore. Two APOs were deployed to check the vehicles. As the officers approached, two of the vehicles made a sudden U-turn and headed towards Malaysia. While the other two vehicles initially complied with the officers’ instructions to proceed to Tuas Checkpoint, one of the vehicles suddenly reversed in a dangerous manner, against the flow of traffic, towards the officers who were on foot. One of the APOs fired two shots at the vehicle, but the vehicle continued on its way towards Malaysia. The driver of the remaining vehicle was detained at Tuas Checkpoint. Preliminary investigations indicated that the persons in the vehicles were involved in the smuggling of cigarettes into Malaysia. Traffic at Tuas Checkpoint was light at the time of the incident. No one was injured in the incident. The Police are investigating into the matter. Security at our borders and checkpoints is a top priority for ICA. ICA takes a serious view of any activity that breaches security or threatens the integrity of our borders. All motorists and travelers are reminded to comply with the instructions of our officers and APOs. Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
