That is why if those thais who chose to choose the democrats actions in toppling thaksin without going for a democratic election, then I think this country will never go forward but forever stay behind....

But hor, thats only how the minority felt. The majority will still prefer to make sure that their wallets are full rather than make themeselves go hungry.

2 days ago early in the morning, my Thai staffs are all discussing about this. Asked me to be careful and not to tell anyone I'm S'porean.... I met a Ford dealer the same night.. he told me he love to make S'porean friends....
Was at my Sports club as usual and introduced myself as a S'porean to this young chap and we chatted happily in the steam room about S'pore and he told me how he'll love to visit S'pore again.....
out of 62 million (according to 2005's statistic)Thai, only 50 turned up in front of S'pore Embassy to protest....... most of the Thai can't be bothered and life goes on as usual....
Later this evening when I go clubbing, I'll be showing my red ID as usual....

Ya lor, its only a small minority. We singaporeans haven't to the extent of how some foreign country use cartoon to go and insult other religion, so I don't see why we should be harmed in any way.

Hundreds of demonstrators marched on the Singapore embassy this morning to demand the reversal of a $1.9 billion sale by the prime minister's family of a stake in Shin Corp to Temasek Holdings, an investment arm of the Singapore government.

The demonstrators, chanting "Thaksin get out, Thaksin get out," have threatened to launch a boycott of Singaporean goods and services if the government does not agree to immediately cancel the Shin Corp purchase.

The January 23 sale of 49-per-cent of Shin Corp by Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's family has sparked mass protests against the premier and calls for his resignation.

The sale has outraged many Thais because it was tax-free and amounts to handing over the management of several sensitive sectors in telecommunications, media and aviation to a foreign firm.

About 700 protesters joined the march on the Singapore embassy Thursday morning, carrying banners that read, "Singapore Go Back," "Temasek Get Out" and "Return the Satellite to Thailand."

"If we don't get an answer at the embassy, we will call on Thais to boycott all Singaporean goods and services," said Somsak Kosaisuk, a leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), the group at the core of the growing anti-Thaksin movement.

Temasek Holding has until Thursday afternoon to pull back on its Shin Corp purchase, after which it is locked into its agreement with the Shinwatra clan to pay 73.3 billion baht (1.9 billion dollars) for the Thaksin-founded business empire.

Shin Corp is the holding company owner of Advanced Info Service, Thailand's largest mobile phone server; Shin Satellite, the national satellite operator; Thai AirAsia, a no-frills airline; and iTV, a television channel.

Most of the businesses are based on government concessions, some of them unusually favourable.

Thaksin, a former police officer turned entrepreneur turned politician, built his billion-dollar business empire on government concessions, chiefly in the telecommunications sector.

In an effort to skirt persistent accusations that Thaksin had used his premiership between 2001 and 2005 to benefit his family-held Shin Corp, the prime minister decided to sell his clan-held holdings to Temasek earlier this year.

The sale backfired, however, as it has sparked widespread indignation after it was revealed that the deal had been finessed through the stock market in such a way as to avoid all taxes and amounted to handing over sensitive sectors to a foreign firm, albeit one belonging to a neighbour and supposed ally.

"They can't deny the fact!" Dej said, as protesters shouted "Get out Singapore!".

Smanrat Kanjanavanit, a writer and film producer who carried a placard saying "Shame" at the rally, called on Thais not to vacation in Singapore or fly Singaporean-owned airlines.

Somchai Kittinanthawan, an executive, said he no longer uses the mobile phone offerings of Advance Info Service, a major Shin business sold to Singapore.

Several demonstrators also handed over AIS Sim cards for destruction.

PAD supporters rallied at the Securities and Exchange Commission office on Wireless Road in the afternoon. They submitted a letter urging the SEC to disclose full details of the Shin-Temasek deal.

The SEC was also told to impose penalties on Shin for violating laws in the tax-free Bt73 billion deal.

Pravej Ongartsittikul, a SEC senior assistant secretary-general, said the securities watchdog will soon respond to PAD's letter.

I think the showing of strength is not part of our culture. But dont under estimate the force of a boycott [the main concern is the Takshin related companies' products] Peer pressure is much more powerful and coercive than mob courage. I remembered that during the aftermath of May 13, 1969's race riots in Malaysia, there was a concerted boycott of anything Malay including durians and satays! The consequence was devastating to the Malay durian growers and satay sellers.

Anyway, it is not fair to target innocent people just because they belong to the race or ethnic or nationality of some purported "wrong doers" [must be proven guilty, but in this case....it was a normal business transaction..willing buyer and willing seller and this applies to WL's too ]. Dun worry, if can not cheong in BKK, fly to HDY [under the protection of a Singaporean Taikoh] or Danuk if you prefer.

If you are scared to cheong in Bangkok, cheong in Hatyai then !

Hatyai is very, very safe under the 'protection' of our Resident Taikoh. He controls everything there - puyings, hotel, entertainment,massage, food,transport and even the famous Hatyai Tigress. However, one thing he cannot control is the Hatyai flood !
