Balibago - north of Manila

This is the best screw & booze place I've ever come across in over a quarter century of indulgement in these two enjoyable sins - to some, but pleasures - to me.
I first set my prick, er...I mean foot in this delightful little sextown way back in 1979 as an early pioneer in the Republic of Singapore Air Force's Philippines Detachment which was to see some two thousand over young Singaporeans rotated through about a dozen years.
From '79 to '85 (when I ROD-ed), I spent a memorable total of about a year in this little offshoot of Angeles City (known aptly or otherwise as "the city of angels" - though some will argue that it should be 'fallen angels') in Pampanga Province, Luzon Island.
Located just 80 km or one hour away from northern Manila, the short trip up north can be made by hopping onto any one of the many airconditioned bus liners that make the expressway run from many locations within Manila. Two of my favourite starting (and ending - on the return trip) points are:- one; the Victory Liner (99pesos) terminal on the EDSA in Pasay City, a few minutes' stroll from the westernmost MRT station near the junction of EDSA and Taft Ave, and two; the Philippine Rabbit (84pesos) terminal on Rizal Ave, close to the LRT station near C. M. Recto - should be the Dorotheo Jose Station if I'm not mistaken. Another option (which I seldom use) is to go first to Balintawak where the start of the expressway is and wait for any of the north-bound buses of which there will be one every few minutes or so. The reason I seldom take this last option, although the frequency is very good , is the crowds and also the buses tend to be quite full by the time they get there, especially during peak hours. Though the wait at the terminals tend to be longer - up to one hour - I will always be sure of securing a seat and the terminals are near the MRT/LRT stations.
The Manila buses will get you to the common terminal in Dau. From there take a short walk up to the MacArthur Highway to catch a short jeeney ride (4pesos) to the destination. As the people there are very friendly and honest - except for the odd hustler - just ask for directions if unsure.
Balibago as a sextown is now reduced to a compact one-street (Fields Ave) act. Gone are the heydays when Fields Ave, Perimeter Rd, First St, the adjacent section of MacArthur Highway and the side streets surrounding them were filled with almost 300 - big and small - of the girlie joints. It then catered to the R&R needs of the nearby sprawling U.S. Air Force's Clark Air Base.
The eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the early nineties (mid 1991 if my memory serves me right) almost buried the place in volcanic ash. The Americans - and Singaporeans too - packed thier bags, never to return. The joints closed down and the girls dispersed. Is that the end of Balibago, the sextown? Seems like it, but then that is not to be, because soon after, a miracle of sorts occured. Alfredo Lim, the then police chief and later mayor of Manila decided to clean up its red light district of Ermita. Some of the owners, driven against the wall, started to migrate their businesses up north to where else but Balibago. The proverbial phoenix had thereby began to rise from the ashes.
When I made a return visit in 1998, after an absence of thirteen years, the place while not exactly a ghost town was just a pale and sickly shadow of its former glory. There were about only twenty or so joints struggling to restore some semblance of a fun place to a devastated district. Yes, there were drinks and girls galore, but the former atmosphere was just not there. To people who had not experienced THE Balibago, its a good place to let down the hair, guzzle the beer and brandish their phalluses. But to me, the element for the freewheeling devil-may-care indulgement of the pure funseekers was still missing. The magic seemed gone forever......OR IS IT?
NOW, after another four years and with some fifty girlie joints in Fields Ave and its tributories, The Fallen Angel has finally risen from its ashes.

So cheap, we reckoned you could get laid, drunk, fed and a decent hotel for about US $ 30 per night. Oh well .. I thought they were opening up Clark Air Base as an International Airport to get the punters in.

US$30/- a night for all that is still possible right now. At current exchange rates, those greenbacks would fetch almost P1500. A basic hotel room with aircon cost average of P700 and a gal for the night after closing hours from 2am onwards (so you escape paying the barfine) can be had for P500. That would still leave you with almost P300 for bar-hopping (beer at P35 and P55 during and after happy hours respectively.

The former Clark Air Base is now the Clark Special Economic Zone and yes there's the Clark International Airport as well but.......since opening years ago it has yet to see its first scheduled international flight. At present the former base's biggest and busiest tennant is the Philippine Air Force................May the FORCE be with the former base.

Olongapo as a sextown is now HISTORY. It is dead as far as booze and broads are concerned. It was almost as happening a place as Balibago before the US Navy's withdrawal.
I used to have a young pair of sisters as my lovers; one in Balibago and the slightly elder one in Olongapo. For a while I would have the younger one from Sunday to Thursday and would then zoom off into the arms (and legs) of her sister for the other 2 nights. This went on fine until the elder sis, not having enough of me, started to go over to Balibago in the weekdays. All of these joints are now concentrated along the main drag; Fields Ave and a couple of its arteries. Though only a sixth of its former number, the atmosphere has been successfully cloned. The biggest amongst them namely; The Blue Nile, Neros Forum & Volcano are worthy successors to former legends such as the Third Eye, Sweet Charity, Show Boat, etc, etc. Parties in celebration of new openings, official openings, commemorations, competitions and what-nots has been resurrated. My all-time favourite; the wet T-shirt contest has made a comeback. As the main venue for this event, the Third Eye, had long since been devoured by fire, the action now takes place mainly at the poolside of the Swagman Hotel. The contests used to be held at monthly intervals and should still be at the same frequency. The contestants hail from the various joints in Balibago and they always tried to outdo each other by whipping off their wet T-shirts, rubbing their boobs into the faces of the judges and the audience, licking the faces and ears and even deep kissing the lucky ones. Some even removed their thongs/bikini-bottoms and brushed their bushes into the judges' faces. The scene and mood at such parties has always been riotious to say the least. This and others like it such as the sexy butts contests are all mere excuses to indulge the joints' customers in uninhibited fun ..... and all for the price of a beer which at times come with even free makan.
Prices for drinks varies but averages P55 for a stubby bottle of San Miguel (supermarket price is P12). Happy hours which end at 7, 8 or even 9 pm at some places are around P35. Ladies drinks(no happy hour prices) are P100. Barfine costs P1000 which unlike Manila (which goes solely to the bar) is split equally between the bar and the gal. As the gals here are much, much less mercenary than their counterparts in the Capital, you can down your drinks, enjoy the spectacle of the scantily clad "dancers" and can even hug around with the gals without being frequently irritated by repeated requests for ladies drinks.
For me, since most of my hours are spent barhopping, accomodation is never an issue, so long as its airconditioned and with an attached bathroom. For convenience, I would always bunk down at one of the nearby hotels. The rooms here are nothing to shout about. Very basic and a little rundown but as a place for a little shuteye and a little bonking after loads of beer, who cares. Prices range from P600 to P1000. There's also a shortime rate for 3 hours at around P300 to P400. For those who are more particular about their beds, there's the Swagman, Oasis and Marlim hotels which should cost around P2000 to P3000. These are all situated a little farther away (but still less than a kilometre at most) from the centre of the action.
A typical nite for me starts at around 6 pm and by close to midnight and almost 10 beers later, I would head for the hotel with a babe (sometimes 2) on my arms. On other occasions, when I just want to drink the night away, I'll be in bed only after the last joint closed at 5 am. Even then, I might just end up with a after-work chick for P500.

I've already mentioned it here and in the other thread by smiler that unlike in Manila where the girl would charge up to another P4000 in addition to the P1000 barfine, Balibago is many times cheaper because the P1000 barfine is all-in; ie no additional charge by the gal. Of course you can still give the gal same tips if you want to but its not mandatory and not generally expected.

So, there it is, my little introduction to the low-cost fun that can be had at the resurrected "city of fallen angels". Any self-respecting chiongster who's already in Manila will only be doing a disservice to himself if he does not take the extra effort to head north and partake in the joys of Balibago.

Ok. Balibago and its plethora of fallen angels will await your CUM.

I know time is a damn precious commodity. We will never have enough of it. Still, if the flesh is willing, the spirit will find a way to do it.
