Tanjong Pinang
Hi there, I am planning to make a trip to Tanjong Penang on the 9th of July, and I was wondering if anyone is planning to go around this time?
Also, it would be nice if anyone has any contacts/recommandations for transport, hotel and location for girls. I have heard of the fabled houses on a hilltop with a security guard at the bottom, is it true? Is there a name for this place? I believe the general amount to bring is around $150-200, and I just want to confirm that, I am planning to have a quickie, reach there in the morning/early afternoon and leave the next morning. Hotel wise, I've heard Hotel Rainbow a few times, is that the best hotel to go to? And call it personal preference, but do they provide 2 singles or a queen (I had a trip to Batam, hotel Oasis, where they gave me 2 single beds joined together. Suffice to say, it was a sinking experience). Also, for a friend, do they provide bathtubs? Clubs, are there any good or decent ones there? I am not exectly a fan of wasting time to go to clubs, but if it makes the girl happy, I don't mind. Thanks for taking your time in reading this newbie-question riddled post! |

Re: Tanjong Pinang
I help answer your question lar Bro.
rainbow hotel provides the HIGHESt commision to the locals that bring you there. if you want a beautiful seaside hotel, try the beach resort there. i forgot the damn name - but there is only 1. charges only 60 for a junior suite - facing the sea! vert nice view and at night can bring your girl to the "coastline" it is recliamed using concrete and can stand there blow wind breeze - shiok....she will say cold and hug you! haha!! and can also go nearby 2 storey foodcourt for kopi..go in the evening, nice palce to watch sunset - again facing the sea!! cute waitreeses in the restruant that serves Excellent crab bee hoon (must try)! I am rather familiar with tp. I cheong b4 from the east to the west - having said that, it was a 3 days, 2 nights trip. i even visited beach tiggegora or how you spell it.... just make sure u dont kena con by those drivers......must use your bargaining power..... |

Re: Tanjong Pinang
Ah! I've been to Bintan Beach Resort before, but it was a company retreat, so I didn't bother going out looking for other services.
I am starting to get a better idea on what to expect when I reach there, thanks for the answer! |

Re: Tanjong Pinang
I suggest u skip the place.
Rather head off to Balai or even Batam. Cheaper and at least u dun get so bored. Esp if u stay at rainbow. Nothing much to do around there, need to get out to town which is far. But rainbow is a excellent place to stay although very expensive. For SGD40 a night u can get much better rooms in Balai or Batam. I used to be very active in Pinang in 98-00. Now i realise i could have had more fun in Balai or Batam for a lot lesser. Take my advice. Cheers ! PS : If u really wanna go there, i can help u. Just ask. |

Yes, agreed! Especially those Fcukxxx drivers waiting to slaughter you at the gate. Balai would be a better choice...in terms of budget. |

U can't run away from them. Even Singapore Changi Airport also got many Limo Taxi drivers waiting to chop unsuspecting foreigners with $35 flat rate Merz taxis !!! If u talking about budget wise, all the 4 riau islands all almost on par lah. For example ceweks wise (prices w/o taxi comm) Balai - 150k onwards Pinang - 130k onwards Batu - 150k onwards Batam - 200k onwards but hotels diff Balai - $20 up Batam - $18 up Pinang - $30 up Batu - $18 up So in the end plus minus about the same lah ! Budget normally depends what ECA u do and how u spend. But at least Batam got more ECA than pinang. Cheers ! |

One thing I like about batam is the only 1 hour ferry ride and frequent ferry schedules. Also, it takes a lot of travelling in TP from point A to point B with many uphills / downhills (eg. Exposed - former Club 5 <=======> Royal Palace .. takes 15 - 20 minutes - xianz liao leh

Can get clean comfortable rooms at City View Hotel for Rp98k u know. Not as big at TP rooms lah ! But enough lah ! The prices i quoted are for rooms of acceptable level. Mind u there are cheaper rooms in Batam with squatting toilets ok for Rp70k....u want ?? True about TP travelling. It's best u engage a private driver to bring u around if not waste alot of time trying to find the place on ur own. But if u lao chow can take public bus/van for Rp1000 to go most places !! Very cheap cheap cheap !!! Cheers ! |

Re: Tanjong Pinang
Thanks for the warnings.
I have always thought that Tanjong Penang was cheaper! Now that you mention that it isn't, I might decide to go to good ol' Batam instead. But, for the last trip I made to Batam, I spent quite alot, compaired to your prices: Hotel: S$46 (Hotel Sentosa) Girl: $300,000 Rupiah Food: S$20 (lunch/dinner/breakfast) Transport: S$10 (hotel driver) Club/Drinks/"stuff" for girls: S$25-50 I will let you know of my decision if I am going to Tanjong Penang however, thanks for the offer to help! |
