some sobering thoughts here:

The lack of free testing and treatment for HIV in Singapore is hindering progress on controlling the spread of the virus in the city-state, said Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Medicine for her co-discovery of the virus that causes AIDS.

“The stigma, the fact that they have to pay for everything, it’s the worst conditions for stimulating people to be tested and treated,” Barre-Sinoussi, 62, said in an interview at the French embassy in Singapore today. “The numbers they announce are probably much lower than the numbers they have.”

There's basically no free treatment for any disease, sexual or not in sg, as far as I know. However I did read sometime back that HIV medication will be subsidised also, when commenced, I don't remember.

Maybe its true, even the anonymous testing offered by AFA is $30 per test. I think this is enough to discourage people from even testing their status.

It will cost a bomb for HIV treatment to be free. Sometime back, a few countries balk at the prices of the meds and decided to make their own generic stuff, ignoring the patent laws.

Thos pharma comps quickly sent representatives down to those countries, Brazil was one of them if I recall correctly, to negotiatie the pricing. In the end, they still had to buy from the pharma comps.
