Re: Cheapest way to call your loved ones overseas?

I found the answer to all my problems - Starhub's free 018 IDD. Absolutely clear, no lag at all, and just like speaking to someone from a block away in the same country. Perfect. No more calling cards, call-back services or scratch PINs!

Re: Cheapest way to call your loved ones overseas?

fellow bros of SBF.please help...i been calling my GF in vietnam using chatchat since may - june and suddenly when i receive my M1 bill...it was 300buck!.normally would be around 60 max.

I called up M1 and enquire about my crazy bill and manage to dig out the truth which is calling chatchat's 1800 number.

Any way to by-pass this local call charges inorder to call to vietnam?spend close to $150 on the chatchat cards and still need to pay for local call charges of around $200 - $250

that would spend me 350-400 a month for calls...crazy man...

Please help.thanks bros.

Chat chat is good and I usually use land lines. Never had too many problems. Disclaimer: never used handphone to call chat chat before.

Re: Cheapest way to call your loved ones overseas?

Boss, there is no other way other than to use calling card. The only way is to use House phone to call (cheaper outgoing call rate). Another slightly slightly more expensive way is to use the Callback service within the calling card. The card I use is TALK-A-THON, yellow color. $8.50

The IDD call is around 120min while callback is around 100-105min.... Connection charges applies, i think about 3-5min per connection.

I used to use 15150, then to 1515..... very clear, like next door, no lag... to hanoi.

Now I have Singtel V019, (think same as Starhub 018), but have lag and worst at night..... btw, now to Thailand......

think I should revert back to 15150 1515, any comments will be appreciated.

1515 15150 are not calling cards.

You can load onto your present mobile number via internet (using cardit card) or AXA machine. AXA give you extra, ie when you load $50, think you get $55 or something like that.

The different between 1515 and 15150:

For 1515, you call directly and get deducted as you use, and you still pay normal mobile usage (like you use to do outgoing calls) This is much clearer.

For 15150, it is a call back system, think there is a small connection charge, and it is consider as an in coming call. This one have some lag. And the charges is by 30 sec block. Down side, just hope line don't get cut, otherwise connection charges.

btw, I have not use 1515 for sometime liao.... should be better now.

I can't really comment on the comparative charges. I suspect it is slightly more expensive, but surely many many times cheaper than IDD calls.

Maybe 15150, call back may be cheaper, if your calls are long (like 10-20 minutes type, longer cheaper. Not worth if you call few 1 - 2 minutes)

Different location different pricing. Have an Indon told me that it was the best rates for him to call home. I think also for Vietnam. Not sure about Thailand, but will know soon........

good luck

F*ck M1 lah! Long ago I already wrote in and f*ck them upside down for my ridiculous phone bills. I've since banned M1 and never look back with Starhub.

Can share how to earn money in Vietnam?

I've been trying very hard to think of how to earn money in Vietnam. After 9 HCMC expedition trips over a period of 8 months I gave up.

Use Skype lah.

iCallBack 15150 sometimes hard to call in also. Lagging at times too.

Starhub 018 is good and economical for its standard.

Vietnam is one of if not the most expensive country to call in Asia. Too bad for those who have Viet tirak. Calling Thailand, China, Indonesia, etc. with iCallBack 15150 is pretty good deal.

Eh Uncle don't top your 15150 account with credit card. Some places sell $10 value card for only $8. You do the Math. Which is cheaper? Haha.

To cut the long story short. My verdict. Use CallBack cards to "maintain" your relationship with overseas tiraks. Use a combination of Starhub 018 and CallBack card to maximise savings with short or long duration calls. Good luck!

The long term solution for all these enormous phone bills nonsense will be to shoot raw in your tirak. Make her pregnant. Have a baby. Bring her to Singapore and settle down. Hahaha.

Re: Cheapest way to call your loved ones overseas?

Pro traveller,

What is the cheapest way to call Singapore from China (using China mobile)?

Instead of just using +65 which is prob the most X, is there a eq of 018 in China?

TQ
