The clampdown on vice is the largest one so far with police and customs officers collaborating in a joint operation. The locations included Geylang(saigon pub), Orchard Road and the entertainment zones in South Bridge Road(v3).

The officers launched a surprise raid at 8pm last night and left many hookers and pimps flustered.

Police commented that by sunrise, they had arrested 144 people – mostly illegal prostitutes from Vietnam and Thailand. They also arrested secret society members, illegal cigarette peddlers, and foreign workers who had overstayed.

An earlier raid was conducted last Saturday at a bar along Joo Chiat Rd resulting in a haul of 32 Vietnamese prostitutes.
