Answering my own thread here, found this on another forum...

Being in adventurous mood, I decided to just explore Nanjing Rd W on my own as frankly I did not do my homework prior to visiting Shanghai so really had to clue where to have some fun.

It is truly amazing how many good looking girls are in this area. Not WG type but just shopping, going home from work or somewhere and many of them are stunningly good looking and dress to kill. Got as far as People’s Park and across the street saw Fenshine Fashion & Accessories Plaza which apparently is a replacement for the infamous Xiangiang Market. This was a fun place back in 2004/2005, so I decided to see what this Fenshine place is all about.

Well, similar stuff but just not the same atmosphere and since the vendors were very aggressive I quickly exited through the side door.

The side door led to some narrow corridor and there was a brightly lit entrance with Rainbow Room sign in all colors. It looked like a cheap xmas tree on steroids. I guessed that this Rainbow Room is some kind of a club for locals and since I did not feel like spending my money on overpriced drinks, I kept walking.

Back on Nanjing Rd I turned back and saw this large sign “MASSAGE 6F” with the bunch of Chinese characters. Hmmmm…..a massage seemed like a good idea so I went back, through the “Rainbow Room” entrance, found an elevator and got to the sixth floor.

The sign on the door to the left said “Fengdinguyan Sauna” with door wide open so I walked in. The guy at the entrance seemed a little bit surprised to see me but all in smiles managed to ask something that sounded like “special service?”

“Yes, special service” I replied and walked in.

Another guy showed up who could speak some English and said “680 for special service, 70 minutes, OK?” Well, 680 RMB is a reasonable price for 70 minutes no matter how special the service is and the place looked nice, clean and professional so I agreed.

The guy asked me to take off my shoes so with some bewilderment I complied. Next I was led through a series of doors and narrow corridors to a room with two large recliner chairs, a locker, TV screen and not much else. The clean set of shorts and shirt was waiting there and the guy showed me a small closet to store my clothes and gave me a plastic bracelet with some kind of electronic key. As I learned later, the key number is a way they keep customers moving through the process so my advice is to put it on your wrist as without it they get all flustered and confused. Also, finding the room after turned out to be a challenge without the key number.

After about 10 min, another guy shows up and asks “Go see girls?” Well, I took him up on the offer and he led me to a room with one wall set as a window to another room (one way I presume) were about 10 girls were standing at attention. The range was anyway from 5 to 8 so none was particularly striking beauty but they were all young, slim so I was not disappointed. The number 33 attracted my attention as she had this special kind of mischievous smile that told me that I may actually have some fun.

Soon after the number 33 came out and she led me to the actual massage room. Huge shower, bed and not much else. Shanghai is bloody cold now. It's about 3 degrees in the day and goes below zero in the night. That and the freezing wind is a big turn off prowling the saunas in the night. Think I'll just order room service. Anyone going there be prepared for a wintry weather. Walking the streets of Shanghai is always a feast for the eyes. Bro, 680 is reasonable price, but 70 mins seems too short. Standard should be 90 mins or even 2 hrs. Further more, tip is really not necessary.

Just like to thank you guys for the great advice you give in this forum. I live here in Shanghai already over 1 year but now I finally can check out some great places. I also like to contribute with one experience:
Place and Location: Lucky Garden Sauna at Yan An Xi Lu/Panyu Lu (next to Howard Johnson Suites)
It's OK to check out but not highly recommended. I only checked it because it is very close to were I live.
Price is RMB890 includes Sauna, Normal Massage and Happy Hour Massage were you can do what you like with the girl. The girls were quite big and they did not provide me with a selection until I asked the manager then he cooperated. However, the selection was only 3 and they were all quite big. The normal massage was not bad, but overall quite expensive for what you get.

Let me know if anybody has a great location and likes to check it out. Maybe we can check it out together.

I checked out your two highly recommendations, and have to say they were both excellent. I don't speak Chinese so going to the 9th floor without understanding if it is the right place needed some courage but I have to say it was worthwile. Price was RMB790 and it included 1.5 hours a girl who socked me in the shower on a bed and then she performed some interesting manoeuvers with her body before it got serious but the whole thing was very relaxing and no stress. The girls are all very pretty so it was difficult to choose from. I just picked one. Actually I found out what the place in English is called "Love hotel" and you are right they bring directly to where the action takes place. I still felt very safe even I did not understand much.

I also strongly recommend the Spa at Dazhong Merrylin went there two times, and had a chat with the manager - very nice guy. I think the girls are also beautiful (of course it depends on your taste) and the price is cheaper with RMB 600. However, the girls seems to me more innocent and depends on you taking over which depeds on you taking more an active role. I suugest both places. Great recommendation Beiboy and also I really found your description of finding the locations excellent. If you have more, let us know. I also try to suggest more once I explored the. This is behind the Sky Fortune Boutique Hotel. The entrance to the spa is also the entrance to the KTV (????KTV????) but I don't do KTVs.
The spa has the best facilities of the three i visited, with a nice big heated pool, steam room, sauna etc and nice changing rooms. The attendents are also very attentive; you walk into the steam room only they will come rushing with cold water/towel.
Once you're done (or can skip also) they will take you to the rest area (I was brought to a regular room with 4 massage chairs) where they will ask if you want full massage. (The answer to that is "arbuthen" by the way) They will then lead you to a room. The room is quite slack compared to the rest of the place - just basic bed in dim red lighting. The manager will then bring in the ladies direct to the room for you to pick.
The ladies are quite disappointing and only was shown 4. On my scale, at best they are about 6.5 (and i am very easily contented), some were quite old (26 and above) But i picked one out anyway and service started. It's the usual ?? (cat licking etc) and again disappointingly it was not BBJ and standard FJ. Quite obliging but then bcos not cheo, also not very shiok.
Damage: 798 for 1.5 hours. (108 more for scrubbing at the sauna)
Score: 6/10
Summary: Go if you want to spend a lot of time on the sauna and facilities. In other words, go join a fucking gym lah, come here waste money for what.

2. Spa at Dazhong Merrylin Hotel ???????? (directly opposite Sky Fortune Hotel)
Tucked on the right hand side of the hotel, the spa is quite basic. One heated pool, sauna and that's about it. Staff is so-so, not very on the ball, all watching TV so get your own water.
Was then brought up to the resting area (again another massage chair-room) and the friendly mamasan will ask if you want to see the ladies (arburthen). Good thing about this place is that it's an aquarium with a one-way looking glass (i find it very hard to pick when they're staring at me). About 10 girls were brought out to parade. Quality of girls not that great (one was damn fat and should be locked up for wearing a bikini to the parade), but better than Sky Fortune, and much cheaper at that.
Was brought up to another basic room but the girl's good attitude made up for it. SOP service but have to give points to friendly staff.
Damage: 600RMB for 1.5 hours (wasn't quite ready to leave cos was busy chatting with the girl)
Score: 7 (extra 0.5 bcos of the friendly staff)
Summary: Not great girls but if you want an easy, and cheaper, time, come here instead of Sky Fortune

This is also behind Fortune Sky hotel - walk towards jin spa and turn right when you reach jin's entrance. You will be behind a building and you can see a sign telling you to go to 9 floor for a spa. It looks dodgy but it's okay; i'm here typing this right. There is also a billboard of the spa on the main road (???) if you cannot find the place.
The lift opens up to the lobby and no staff greeted me. The receptionist than noticed me and yelled for someone to greet me and one rushed out. The guy then led me towards the guestrooms. I thought it was a bit direct as i wanted to soak for a while and he was quite surprised that i wanted to bathe first but he led me to the EMPTY changing room with 100 lockers. I changed and he led me to the EMPTY pool, sauna area. By then i was feeling quite nervous cos why like no one leh? Anyhow i thought, fuck it, just go and massage so he took me to a locked door with stairs leading to the 10th floor. at the 10th floor, i was brought past the EMPTY buffet spread (with no food) i was then brought to a room and i immediately knew this was one serious place man.
Besides a large round bed, the room had this fuck machine, the one with a vibrating board and suspension straps. It also had a large shower place (I believe it is the Korean bath thing). Then the manager brought 15 girls in. If you read up to here, you'll think: This place so ulu, no customers, so dodgy, the girls confirm cannot make it. Well, the girls were ALL damn young and damn cheo. On average i would say that they were at least an 8. They surrounded the round bed and introduced themselves. Normally i very easy - see pleasant face can already. But this time, all were quite cheo so i had to take a full minute to choose (and i chose her only bcos her face damn hiao compared to the rest; you know in revenge on the zouk girls that spurned me in my youth)
The service was supposed to start with the korean bath but the water heater needed some time to work so service started first. Service was SOP, but the girl was cheo enough that it didn't matter. And she also got damn wet just by fingering and soon her ice queen facade went away.
