“Oi, what you mean ah?” Amy cut-in, sounding protective of her cousin. "Don't bully her ok!"

“Huh? What you guys talking about?” Winnie asked as she pulled the earpiece out from her ear.

I don’t know what made me turn left after Cathay, but I headed towards Prinsep Street. There was a karaoke joint that I went to sometime back & I thought it’ll be nice to spend a couple of hours there.

“I know what to do. We go karaoke” I said to the both of them, while slowing down to look for a parking space.

Chapter 10 – Karaoke with…..

The pub was located along a row of two-storey shophouses. On the ground floor were the island tables with bar stools while the sitting area was upstairs.

“What would you ladies like to drink?” I asked as we sat on a sofa. Amy sat beside me while Winnie next to her, on her right. Looking cheekily at Winnie, I asked “Anything?”. “Tsk” she replied, giving me a playful glare & curling one side of her lips. “I want vodka lime” said Amy. “Vodka lime?” I replied, “That’s my favourite drink too! I didn’t know you also like to drink that”.

“A lot of things about me you still don’t know…..” she replied with a smile, trailing off as if expecting me to complete the sentence. “Then let me know lor!” I said. “Ok la, I also take vodka lime” Winnie said putting the menu down.

It was still not crowded yet when we arrived and a song by Englebert Humperdinck started to play on the TV screens. “Tell me when you will be mine? Tell me quando, quando, quando……” Raising my glass to toast the ladies, I said “Cheers! All the best to everything!” We clinked glasses & took a sip.

“So what song you like to sing?” I asked Amy. “I don’t like to sing karaoke. Can’t sing. Prefer to listen only” was her reply. Winnie in the meantime was really acting cute. She was munching on the nuts, moving her body & bobbing her head to the song. “Eh Winnie, what song you want to sing?” I asked her next while leaning across Amy. They were whispering back and forth when Winnie got up & said that she’ll be back soon. “Where’s she going?” I asked Amy as Winnie disappeared down the stairs. “Going to buy something” she replied. “Buy what?” I asked.
“Aiya, why you so kaypoh ah? She go and buy something lah” Amy said beginning to sound irritated. Pouting my lips & showing a dejected look, I said “No need to get angry lah. Just thinking if she want to buy cigarette, can buy from here mah. No need to go out to buy. Ho sim boh ho poh” I said in Hokkien. Could it be that she was going to buy condoms? “Hahaha, good try! Dream on…..” my inner voice laughed.

“She go and buy pad. Ask me have or not? I told her don’t have, so she say she go and buy lor” Amy told me, perhaps feeling a bit guilty. “Cheh!” I replied, leaning onto her again in a playful manner. “Winnie’s on code red” I thought to myself. That means, it’s safe. But then again, I’ve just met her tonight and I think getting to homebase so quick was a great improbability.

“So how? Have you thought over what you told me this morning?” I asked Amy while reaching for my drink. Looking somewhat confused, she said “Not really lah. I’m very lost. Don’t know what to tell him”. “Tell him what?”

“I told you he want to get married right? But I’m not sure whether I want or not. Told you this morning if he want baby then how? I don’t want to have baby”.

“Then why don’t you tell him what you told me? Maybe he also don’t want another baby leh?”

“Aiya, never use protection, sure one day kena one” “Where got so lucky one?” I said trying to sound comforting. She turned to look at the TV screen as another song came on. “Sally called when she got the word. She said I s’pposed you heard, about…..”

Just then Winnie popped up the staircase. She looked at Amy and signalled towards the direction of the washroom with her head. She smiled at me as she passed by our table. “Aiya headache la. Don’t want to think so much now. After all not seeing him tomorrow also” sighed Amy.

Judging from her tone of voice, I figured that she must have some feelings for him. I remember Alice mentioning that he’s always interested in sex while Amy’s not that keen, just giving in to him whenever he feels like it. I thought to myself if ever I get the chance to do it with Amy, would she feel the same or otherwise.....

“How come you all not singing?” asked Winnie as she came back and sat down. “I also not good in singing. Just chatting with Amy lor” I said.
Amy reached for her tote rummaging through it and took out her mobile. There was an incoming text. As she was tapping her reply, I asked “Lim ah?”

“No. My sis. She’s asking where am I” “You telling her you’re with me?” I asked quizzically.

“Ya, with you and Winnie in karaoke pub”. “Where’s this place ah? See if she want to join us or not”, she added. “Prinsep Street” I replied not really wanting Alice to come. “I’m not sure of the name of this pub. Tell her if she want to come, I can meet her at PoMo. Then cross the overhead bridge can already”. Reading Alice’s reply, Amy turned to me and said that her sister won’t be coming.

“What a relief!” I sighed. My mobile beeped shortly with an incoming message. “Hope you enjoy yourself” it read, from Alice. Replying, I texted “Not doing anything. Just having a drink n chit chat with your sis n Winnie. 1 2 join us? What r u doing? At hm?” There was no reply.

It was just past midnight when we left the pub. Amy was a bit tipsy from downing four glasses of vodka limes. I only had one since I was driving. It was also because of another motive…..Winnie had two glasses as it seemed that she wanted to remain sober.

Winnie held on to Amy’s arm, supporting her down the stairs slowly. And as we walked out, I could hear a voice croaking “I sometimes see you pass outside my door…..”

“Where’re you staying?” I asked Winnie as she helped Amy get into the back seat. “I can send you home first becos I’m living opposite Amy only”. “I’m staying overnight at her place tonight” Winnie replied as she got into the passenger side.

“There blows my chance” I cursed silently under my breath. I was hoping to send Winnie home first and with Amy tipsy, I could maybe cop a feel or two when we were alone. I was very, very tempted to lift up her tee just to get a look at her breasts. If we were alone in the car, I may just be able to do that. Who knows, I may even get to…..But, it was not to be. So unfortunately, tonight was a karaoke with…..no special outcome.

Chapter 11 – SOS (Sex On Sunday)…..

Part I

“So she not in the mood and you let her drink is it?” Alice interrupted, her voice getting louder. “You know ah, last night she…..” “Not that la”, I interrupted her, “Aiya, why don’t you go ask Winnie? She was there also and she knows and saw everything that happened. I, we, didn’t do anything. Never sing song some more!” I said, this time raising my voice a little and sounding a bit agitated. “Why, what happened to her last night?” I asked, softening my voice.

“Forget it lah. I thought you also want to do with my sister that’s why she drunk” she said softly. That’s Alice for you – brash, direct and never one to hold back on saying how she feels or what she thinks. But then, the Alice who was in bed with me yesterday seemed so different…..

“Aiyo, please la girl, ok we did it yesterday. I didn’t force you or you didn’t force me. We’re both adults. I never even thought of doing with Amy!” I replied, trying to sound as straight-faced as I could. “Let’s go for breakfast ok?” I added. “We can talk some more then”.

We met at a coffee-shop this time, near the hawkers’ centre. Alice came dressed in her usual style. “What you feel like eating? Chye tow kuay?” I asked as we made our way to a table. “Your wish. What you buy, I eat” she replied. Strange, I thought to myself. Boy was she super temperamental! The way she sounds now compared to earlier over the phone was the complete opposite! “Is she playing games with me?” I thought. But then, I understood the temperaments of an unmarried woman, especially at that age, blowing hot one moment and cold, the next…..

Not knowing how to bring up our sexual liaison yesterday, I mumbled “About yesterday, you and I, please don’t misunderstand ok? I’m not the type to play around. You told me not to say that we’re together mah, right?” Alice was still silent, taking in every word that I was saying. “So, what happened to her last night after she went home?”

Alice didn’t reply, looking at the carrot cake, just picking up the pieces aimlessly and playing with them without eating.

“Yesterday, I came inside” I whispered meekly. “How?” I asked. “You said never mind before you go in to the bathroom. Like that can really never mind one meh?” sounding both stupid and worried at the same time.

Looking up at me, she said “Why? You scared I get pregnant is it? You scared wait I come to you house and find your wife ah? Or you scared I blackmail you?” There was venom in her voice as she said that. “Don’t worry ok? If I let you do with me, I won’t blame you if I get pregnant”. Her voice getting louder until some heads at the next table turned to look.

She's now acting macam Drew Barrymore in the Exorcist, possessed. I was beginning to feel uncomfortable, awkward and somewhat embarrassed. Was this the price I had to pay for fucking her? For crying out loud, it was she who asked if I wanted to go to a hotel in the first place, not me! And why is she taking me on this guilt trip now?

“Don’t worry ok?” she continued, immediately in a toned down voice. “My menses just over. It’s safe” almost whispering. She just loves torturing people.....

Boy, that was a great relief to me! I breathed a little easier and took a big gulp of coffee. “Happy right?” she added, sounding sarcastic and with a smirk on her face. It was my turn to keep silent this time, while trying hard to mask a smile.

She went home after breakfast and so did I. We did not make any specific plans to meet or do anything except me telling her “Call me later if you want to go out or what ok?” as she headed towards the lift lobby of her block. I had the feeling that she won’t be calling that day.

It was getting close to noon when I finished reading the papers. It’s a good time to do the laundry, I thought to myself. At least I could show the wife that I’m responsible enough to help with the housework even when she’s not around. Putting the laundry into the washer and while it ran, I swept the house but was too lazy to mop it.
