no evacuation initiation, I personally oso do not intend 2 leave nor evacuate unless the situation is critical or govt (thai) announces / advise evacuation.

I m the only sillyporean working in the project, while there are quite a no of farangs here. in fact, this morning, 1 of my superiors, a farang, said she will go to work. the project director, oso a farang, said tat she leaves it to individual to decide.

There is so much untold factors in it, that are behind the scenes. They thai people and tourists are in no danger. The military are to protect the Royal Family only. My mate is one of the high up officers overseeing this.

New pm to be a civilian in two weeks. Then normal order to be restored. No violence, bloodshed at all.

Pls see this post in the Bangkok Post. No need to cancel your trip.

Bro, the new BKK airport is a menace.

I'm holding off my trip not because of coup but transport @ the new airport. I hope you can update us on the new airport thread in this forum.

The Thai ppls do worry!
they dun really seem worried. they seem to be more of juz following instructions / cooperating wif instructions.

from my observations 2day, most of the ppl juz take advantage of the public holiday to go shopping, sit at cafes, relaxing, etc. i oso went foot & thai massage, haha.

they dun seem worried / afraid / bothered. many of them juz said it's govt's quarrels, govt problems, they wont bother ordinary civilians.

hahaha,

Sorry, I just got to laugh myself here. Why?

Irony, The most 'democratic' country(supposedly) in the region of South East Asia, using a coup to overthrow the current government. This is the so-called 'Democracy' we are seeing.

And the best part is the King 'endorses' the coup leader meaning to say he endorses the 'coup' which in turn I really want to ask is there a need for Elections to come after all?

hahahahahahaha, its a real joke.

I don't mean to poke fun at other's country or monarch but to be frank, the truth is all here for everyone to read. And nothing I can do, except for pointing some of the truth, and laughing myself silly at them.

'Democracy' died yesterday in Thailand and I don't see why they should have another election. I am waiting to see whether they will be the next Myanmar. BTW, Aung San Suu Kyi is still in her house, unable to come out.

Although I agree with many of your starting points, I don;t think this military coup is equivalent to the brutal military regime in Myammar. And I don't see your reason for mentioning Aung San Suu Kyi unless you are likening him to Thaksin, which is ridiculous. Aung San Suu Kyi is respected the world over for her struggle against a military dictatorship and the Myammar people elected her into power because of that.

Myanmar is communist, not democratic. Period. Thats why Aung San is 'kept' at home.
Thailand is said to be democratic but chose not to acknowledge election results.

BTW, I did not likened Aung San to Thaksin. I mentioned Aung San as an example of communism.

If you have visited Myanmar before, you would have seen how backwards the country is due to their communist regime. Want to find a condom in their convenience store also damn hard.

For the last 8 years, Thailand worked so hard to repay debts to IMF, one of the fastest economies in the world for the past few years. Thaksin could be corrupted like what some said but I guessed none really remembered what policies he made to help the country when their country is in the dumps.

Removing a Thaksin, only breeds another one. All the hard work over years is finished in just a few days.

We'll get to see a new man at the helm, and he definitely wouldn't last long....

Did anyone wonder why the military didn't wait for Thaksin to be back from US, before launching the coup? Or they have no confidence in success if he is back in Thailand?

from all the news I gathered so far, the "endorsement" from the King is only said by the coup leader. The King did not personally endorse it, the "endorsement" did not come out from The King's mouth personally, at least not reported in the media!

Bro 84gunner.... according to Channel News Asia, an official statement was issued from the Royal Palace around 1830hrs yesterday.

Anyway, i don't think the coup leader is so suicidal to 'make up' such a claim when it concerns the King (God).

I am packing my bags liao for a 3 day romp.....

PM's men detained, wife in Singapore

Many politicians and those with links to caretaker prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra were spread far and wide last night as the news of the coup broke in Bangkok.

First lady Pojaman reportedly flew to Singapore on Monday and it is not known whether Panthongtae, the family's only son, followed his mother last night.

The whereabouts of the PM's daughters Paethongtae and Pinthongta were not known.

Thaksin is in New York at a hotel, where he has reportedly been watching the United Nations General Assembly and keeping abreast of developments here.

Many Cabinet members and other people deemed hostile by the "Council of Administrative Reform" have been detained. Deputy Prime Minister Chidchai Vanasatidya and Supreme Commander Ruengroj Mahasaranont and pro-Thaksin television host Dusit Siriwan are among them.

Head of the Mass Communications Organisation of Thailand Mingkwan Saengsuwan was apprehended by anti-Thaksin troops at Channel 9 compound after it aired a statement of Thaksin, from New York, announcing a state of emergency and relieving Armycommander Sonthi Boonyaratglin from his post.

Deputy Thai Rak Thai leader and caretaker Agriculture Minister Sudarat Keyuraphan reportedly flew to Paris with her family.

Defence Minister General Thamarak Isarangura na Ayutthaya reportedly escaped arrest narrowly and has fled upcountry.

PM's secretary-general Prommin Lertsuridej reportedly made an unplanned landing in the Phillippines during a trip abroad while Bank of Thailand governor MR Pridiyathorn Devekula was in Singapore.

Deputy Thai Rak Thai Party leader Somsak Thepsuthin said he was shocked by last night's coup and never thought it could really happen. A number of TRT MPs may meet today at the party headquarters.
