IMHO, if you are staying at Crowne Plaza Hotel, it should be near to the Jiao Tong University. Not to far for you to go to any of the places, eg. HC-TRY is just abt 15mins taxi ride from your hotel. YPH is in opp direction, prob 20mins. Please specify your needs, I am sure many lao-jiao (Bro SGPSha69, Bro luvgangsta, Bro Prince Fed and etc) here can help. Cheers!

He said he is staying near Fudan University, which is at the Pentagon Square area. Like Bro SGPShanghai69 said, there is nothing much there. I used to stay at Radisson Lanshen which is at that area, and was bored to dead. Jiantong University is at Xu Jia Hui Area at Hua Shan lu, where one finds many actions. How are you? See you very very soon in Shanghai and need your two large light bulbs to show me the way again. Please help this newbie here. Hahahaha... Regards from Euroland. PTR

Look like you are very familiar with Shanghai afterall. Indeed Fudan University is located near the Wu Jiao Chang area in Yang Pu District. As for the Crowne Plaza Hotel, I know there is one located at Pan Yu Road near to Fa Hua Zhen Road in Xu Hui District, the other CPH is located at Wai Gao Qiao. So when he said he stays near Fudan University, CPH, I am not sure where is this place. Prob bro nei nei can clarify. Bro, what you need, you already have them; for me to be around, I think I am not a light house, rather a Huge Light Bulb............ Hopefully half of "Ye Zi Mei" won did not make your stay at whatever you are now a little bit tough. Cheers!

Re: ShangHai Recommendation - Home News
Cab fare hikes kick in, some commuters to turn to MRT or buses
New fares for ComfortDelgro taxis kicked in on Monday. During peak hours in the morning, a taxi commuter can clock up charges of as much as $8 even before the cab moves away from the curb. First, $4 for the morning rush-hour booking fee, which kicks off half an hour early now, at 7am. And then, there is the peak period surcharge, which is now $2 instead of $1 previously. Adding to the $6 is the flag-down fare of $2.50 - 10 cents more than the previous $2.40. Tallying up, just getting into a taxi can set a commuter back by about $8.50. On the road, every 10 cents now covers a shorter distance. Compared to the old taxi fares, a commuter now has to pay about 20% more for a 10-kilometre ride Above is an article clipped from news online from Yahoo Singapore...... Just sharing with fellow bros on how tough is life getting back in homeland, S'pore...having cost of living rising tremendously yet the economy is still so gloomy....... Looks like staying here to make a living for the next few years is a reality one has to face with man.........sigh.........

Bro SGPshanghai69,
Well done, not in Sillypore yet know so much,.......more details than I know...lol. Well....not many are as fortunate as you bro. can get your ass out of Sillypore. Enjoy yourself and please dun relocate back, unless for Holiday. Sillypore no hope, all those GDP firgures also duno how they calculate.... There are jobs, for sure, but work to pay bills and bills. By 62, Sillypore govt will ask, why u not saving? why u no buy insurance, why why and why. Lots of why without asking themselves why pigeon hole which cost 50K to build, selling at 200-400K and keep saying they subsidies. Sad Story Sillypore Land is for the rich, top 5%.........

How r u mate? Indeed a well said statement herein, on the fact that S'pore's economy is not as elightening as it claimed to be to all, especially all bros who are dwelling & making a tough living there still. Yet, having said so much, life here in Shanghai isn't that rosy too. Fortunate? I would merely say I'm fortunate to be alive & having a job for now bro.... Lots of sacrifices to be made when one choose to be here on a foriegn land, having to face all cultural reality & differences when one arrives initially.......the list goes on bro. I strongly believed that wherever one maybe at, it all bears it's pros & cons. However you're right on saying that for the fact that now that I'm here, I can only go on to make the best out of my present situation and make the simple living to feed the ones back home. Wishing all bros well & happy back at homeland.................. Cheerios...........

Re: ShangHai Recommendation!
Bro SGPshanghai69,
Yupe agreed bro, lots of sacrifice need to be done. Leaving your family and friends back home and start anew in a foregin land without knowing the outcome, might be worse off sometime. Ya, making a living these days is not as easy as our grandfather time. Things are controlled and monopolised. Making a small living and trying hard to pay bills and bills. Guess now, just watching my children grow up healthy and happy is my only motivation. Don't dream of making big, except tio toto ^_^

Re: ShangHai Recommendation - WARNING & BEWARE! Foot & Mouth Disease in China
China reports new outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease
China has reported a fresh outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, with 51 head of cattle affected in the nation's northwestern Qinghai province. Cattle at three farms in Qinghai's Henan county began showing symptoms of the illness on July 1, and on July 7 they were diagnosed with foot-and-mouth disease, the agriculture ministry said on its website. A total of 212 head of cattle were culled following the outbreak, while local agriculture officials quarantined and disinfected the farms and the surrounding area, the ministry said. The case is the third in Qinghai this year, and brings to nine the total number of foot-and-mouth outbreaks to strike China so far in 2006, according to the ministry's website. Foot-and-mouth is a severe, highly contagious viral disease affecting cattle, pigs, sheep and other cloven-hoofed livestock. It is not usually fatal but causes losses in the production of meat and milk. Above is another news article clipped from Yahoo Singapore news online.....for those bros at Western part of China, and all over China to be cautious about! Exercise cautions to all bros..................... Cheerios..........

Although I harbour the thoughts of returning back to work in SG (because I am sick and tired of the people, their work and behaviour here), I do share the same sentiments as you that only by living here and earning SG's equivalent pay can we live the comfortable life the upper middle or lower high income earners are enjoying back home... Cheers, Shanghai Papa |

Thanks for sharing the same sentiments as per my cent worth of personal opinion. I couldn't agree more with you for the fact that cost of living is indeed much lower or would I say it's easier to control oneself living cost here in Shanghai being that varities & ranges of food, dwelling cost are all very diversify, not simply affordable but can be managed at a different level to it's cost. One can simply chosse to live the high life or to lead a simple life at a mere cost of RMB 20 yuan a day as well!............ Wish you well bro......... Cheerios........
