Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner
Bros with viet wife, need your advice.
my wife just got the approval for her long term visit pass but have to do medical check up. The papers says she can either do it at a GP in SG or in her own country. She just return to Vietnam to arrange the kid for toddler class and by the time she comes back we only have about 10 days before her current visa expired. So it is abit rush and we tot of doing the test in Vietnam. So if we were to do the medical test in Vietnam does it mean at a hospital? Her place at Binh Ann dun have any certified GP so I assume it will be at hospital in Ho Chi Minh. I am also worry if the test result will be in English language. Or better we do it in SG. Basically i assume there are a standard set of medical test but the document emphasize on chest X-ray and HIV test.

I will ask her to call to get pricing info and lead time. But f**k, I didn't read the small prints but ICA attached a Medical Report Form stating that the doctor have to fill up the form. That means I have to scan and email to her to print out. From the website, it looks kind of high class. Wondering if it is the same one that she mentioned alot of rich local and expats patronise.

I just checked with the local GP just now. HIV test is $25 3 days to collect result while chest X-ray is at SATA and $20 is instant result. Better I get her to do it in SG. Hope this info comes in handy for bros in future

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner
Sometimes i really wonder. Those vietnamese WL aren't given proper education, no proper living but yet they are tied down by their parents and family for the rest of their life. Yes, we cannot choose our parents, but i always believe that if parents didn't do their part in giving the kids the basic neccessities, they are in no position to ask for anything back.
Some bros may argue that they are poor, so cannot provide. This in fact, to a large extend and often, is untrue. Basic education in vietnam is damm cheap. The parents plus family members often are not interested to work at all. They know they can find job if they go Saigon, but they refused to and choose to slack in the province. Drink coffee, drink wine and smoke the whole day, and tell everyone that they are poor and need help. take for example my wife's parents, its not that they are that poor, just that they do not place emphasis on education for kids. They want the have kids, let them have 2 to 3 years of education, and when the kids reach 12, send them to the city to work as maid to earn money for them so that they can shake leg at home. My father-in-law retired at 45.... knn.. he thinks he CEO of some top US company, can retire at 45. Basically, stay home, drink and smoke daily and ask children to send money home. Most of these families are poor by choice. I have seen another family in my wife's province, both parents work but don't earn much. But they emphasize on children's education. Children are all degree holders from Ho Chi Minh City. Now children can all support themselves and even give the parents some money each month. These vietnamese ladies are forever indebted to their parents and we singaporean man, by marrying them, seems to have signed an IOU for life. |

But they could chose to live a simpler life, the whole family, not in an expensive place like HCM. Many do that. And even if they are always sick - the "medicine" uneducated farmers will buy for a lot of money is mostly no good anyway. Supporting family, yes, but up to a limit. Look at young boys - what would they do to support their family? Usually not so much. So why expect so much more from girls. I don't think it's reasonable. Vietnam is changing, more and more young people are staring to think differently, starting to think not only about family duties, but also about themself. At least I like to think that many have a choice, but there are always exceptions.
