The secret is not to ask for the price upfront. If you do, they know you do not know the market rate. Pay in the morning. 1.5k will do (that is including the tip you supposed to give her for the time in the room).

Speaking about going market rate, for a posh KTV in Shanghai, the rate is RMB1500 per shot and RMB2000 overnight. Depending on your negotiation skill, you may lower a bit. I would not do it as suggested, probably because I hate to create a scene after an enjoyable night.

If she knows you are bringing them out, she might tell you that you need to give her the tip in the KTV room which is RMB300 as she needs to show the money to the mummy that you have released her from the joint. In actual case, they want RMB 1800 for a shot. When you negotiate, please be clear whether the service fees include the tip for the KTV companionship first. I encountered a case like this in the joint you mentioned about.

Thanks PTR for your input. I have been in Shanghai for a while and never had to pay more than 1600 total irregardless of the location, be it 金色大地 (JSDD)or 金色阳光 (JSYG). My average is 1400-1500 when I pay for my customers. Sometimes if the girl likes you, you can get away with FOC (rare but it happens) or 800 if you call her outside of the KTV). The only exception is 金碧辉煌 (JBHH) where your rate is accurate. Come on, who really goes to JBHH to party? We only bring cacausian customers there. It is also a must go but only once for the experience for any newbies in Shanghai. The place I usually bring my customers is off Huai Hai Road near XinTianDi. I know the managers there very well. Market rate there for overnight not over 1500-1600 total including sitting tips. Please keep in mind the seating tips for this place is 400. The place is by all standards very posh as well but not as huge as JBHH.

Anyway, in the end it is a matter of price expectation and acceptance. If the brothers here think it is fair and worth it, any price will do. Usually a scene is not created. If the girl count or ask, then ask for more, I will glady chalk it up. No problems there. It is afterall a transaction. But that almost never happens.

Yes bro PTR, I heard that excuse about showing the mommy b4 leaving. But a more seasoned shanghai-er will know that is usually BS. That will not work with places we frequent since the managers know us better than the girls.

Anyway, that is my experience. My 2 cents.

There are some good ones that are cheaper. The room fees are 250 excluding drinks. Gals' tips at 200. Those places look a little more run down and the ratio of class A girls is much lower. Chivas cost around 400-500 in these places. Look for smaller joints in Hongqiao/Gubei Area especially along Xianxia Lu. Some are ripoffs so ask the hostess about the charges upfront before you sit down and get comfy.

There are also some "underground" joints where they have to know you or get introduced before they will let you in. Those are quite reasonable as well. But I can't really talk about those here.

Thanks for the post that I am sure the brothers would benefit from your experience. Prices for services really vary from places to places. Recently, I went to one introduced by my local friend, I paid RMB 1000 for overnight (including the RMB 300 tip), and had two shots. The joint was not a posh one. I would not say "Never" had to pay certain amount, as there are really many variables in this game. For example, two years ago when Jing Yu Lan at Dapu Lu was a very popular joint, I could get RMB 1200-1500 for overnite while the going rate for overnite was RMB 2000. Why? I know many mummies, managers, and girls in that joint. I am more careful in advising the brothers here in giving them information that they would find practical when they are faced with the reality. I hardly got FOC, and I suppose that is because I am an UFO (Ugly, Fat and Old).

I had bad experience in JSDD, and hence stopped going there for quite sometimes even though my X was a mummy there. JSYG is a nice place and prices are lower (Are you refering to the one at Nanjing Xi Lu?). Prices of girls for services vary really. These girls are good in sizing up the customers. Once they know you are a foreigner, then they will try ways and means to get a bit more. Recently, I was in Harbin, called up a girl from the hotel HC, she quoted RMB 2000 (not even overnite, but for 1.5 hrs). I smiled and said thank you and sent her away.

I always do like you, I hate to argue with these girls. I usually pay as I do not like to create a scene. It happened not only to me, but also to some of my brothers here.

After more than a decade in China, now I seldom frequent HCs, KTVs, FLs, WLs, BBSs, etc. now, unless acccompanying brothers or clients. In limited cases in other smaller cities, when I have an urge, then I shall call for service. Now I have regular girl friends in Shanghai and Beijing, and I have learnt to enjoy their companionship. However, I still hold on to the principle of not maintaining another family, but my own one in Singapore. My girl friends understand my principle and we are together happily.
