As Bro Shengge said so, it's better for u to be here in person to seek for better job opportunitites. An example is myslef most recently seeking for greener pastures which most interviews are conducted here, especially foreign-owned firms as such.

Another alternatives is to surf the jobs websites as lots of opportunities are available online, positions offer to be posted here from SGP.

Personally I feel that being a overseas Chinese has to be both well conversant in Chinese as well as English. Not just because can speak English alone will get me anywhere though bro....I won't dare to speak for the rest of the bros as most of them are all so well conversant in both languages already!

In view of what u mentioned about being there in person to seek for opportunities, I have tot abt that before, but how long can I stay there to do so? I mean, mostly financial concerns of all the basic needs (housing, transport, food, etc.) Also, juz to chk wif u guys, normally if u get a job wif interview conducted there, do they usually offer local package then?

Actually I do see quite some openings for posting to china, but r mainly finance and technical positions, technical as in required a technical degree, be it operations or BD or marketing positions. These r usually for manufacturing companies.

Unfortunately, my quali & experience r commercial based (non-manufacturing), not industrial based. I handled commercial business operations, BD, sales & mktg, but no experience in industrial operations. My previous postings to Shanghai & beijing was in the 90s managing company in retail trade. Hence, my difficulties now in getting a job that post to china.

So Bros, if u know of any suitable openings, do let me know pls.

These days, there are more and more foreigners working in Shanghai, some of them found their job here. Not sure abt the package.
Since joining WTO, I think the demand for non-technical related work should increase greatly. May be you can try to search the major websites for opportunity or post your resume to local employment agencies. That would definitely increase your chances.

Juz to chk wif u bro, now the general trend or norm for overseas posting to china, the package is local or still got overseas benefits (not refering to full-expat package, dun dare to dream of that, but rather the basics like housing, allowances, tax paid/tax equalization, home trips,, etc)?

Cos back in 2004, I actually got offers but the package is reali buey kan 1. I dare to say that I'm not choosy, juz that wif the package offered, I can't even cover all my expenses, how to survive? Ya, they offer local package for overseas-based position, n the package is even lower than my last drawn working in sg. Yup, they r sg companies, 1 even a public listed co. Got 1 company can even tell me its still very much a employer mkt. knn they r all out to squeeze potential candidates.

That time still think can tong cos the unemployed period not that long yet, so turned down the offer n search for others, but din't know the result is so bad.

Indeed SGP firms offer the worst of it here for SGPoreans expats to be here, heard alot from my clients & friends. Which is also why this time round I stick to working for foreign firms (i.e.ang-mohs firms, not even HKG or TPE firms!)....SGP firms here are simply looking for SGPoreans to 'squeeze' from like 'sponge' to them bro..agreed totally with u! Like what u said Bro TGL, SGP firms are simply 'buay gan'!!!!

The so-called 'local' packages foreign firms that r offering to expats like us here are usually a total package amount inclusive of wage, housing, annual home trips & income taxation taken care of. That's what it is for my present package whom my an-moh boss offered me. In terms on an overall amount, it is definitely alot more than alot of SGP firms would offer!

Guess most of us sporeans agree that the our local companies offers r damn jialat, and bloody hell, sum1 still can say $600k p.a. is peanut!

From what u say, then yr package is quite good I guess. Hey, it doesn't matter to me whether is 1 lump sum or segregated into diff items, as long as the amt is acceptable, its good enuff. Think really must look for Ang-moh gongsi liao, if not sure let local companies squeeze until flat flat.
