A doctor who drugged and raped a female patient in central western New South Wales has been sentenced to more than 13 years' jail.

In December 2005, Grenfell GP Dr Rafid Alramadan injected the woman with diazepam before raping her.

As a District Court jury in Wagga rejected the 55-year-old's claim that the sexual intercourse was consensual, finding him guilty of three charges, including administering a stupefying drug to commit aggravated sexual assault.

In the District Court in Sydney today, Alramadan was sentenced to 13 years and three months in jail, with a non-parole period of 10 years and three months.

The judge said Alramadan was a respected medical practitioner who had abused his position of trust.

Outside the court his wife declared his innocence.

His lawyer said an appeal against the conviction and sentence was being considered.

if in private clinics n small establishments, I think more probable ... but in private hospitals wif Operating Theatre, I find this hard to believe becoz it wld mean most likely more than 1 person wld be involved.
