Hard to believe this story as is. A few suspicious places. He booked a room just to have a few touches of you and run away? If he really wanted to run away, he would have bought a CD, screwed you and run away. Wouldn't he need to come back to return key? If he needs to, can just wait for him to return and confront.
I don't want to prejudge till there are more details.
