Bro Shengge is a nice and easy going man, I went out with him many times, we were in Shanghai, we were in Suzhou, etc. He is quite a fun person to be with. I do not think he meant bad. I used to have this habit of getting loose with my words when I knew someone too well or at least when I assumed so. I ended up in many understandings. I see myself of yesterday in Bro Shengge of today. We shall all remain friends. I treasure friendship and will defend it to the best of my ability. This is precisely the reason for which I am writing such a long post.
Dear Bro PTR and Shanghaitan,
I enjoy reading both of your post very much. I am sure Shanghaitan (SHT)understand, I just mean to be funny. Nothing else.
I am flattered on what you have said. I just tried to be nice to all my friends, so as the ladies...hehe. Well, I just happened to be in Pudong and Suzhou when you were there, that has given us the oppoturnity to get to know each other a little bit more. Hopefully, SHT, you and me have a chance to get together for a tea sesson.
Got the message about your emergency, we are hope thing will turn out well.
Take care!

Dear Bro P... er... UFO.. hahahaha

I'm truly embarassed by your praises. I merely write in whatever way I know.

Let me assure you that no offences were actually taken. Just expressing my opinon, that's all... I use strong words as I won't say what I don't mean and you know that, right? We are afterall brothers, so feelings and comments should be as direct and sincere as possible. Sugar coating? Forget it... not my way of doing things... hahahaha

Anyway, 这里说,这里算. Right? Nothing to worry about.. 哥们哪有隔夜仇呢?That is, if this was perceived as a form of 仇 to begin with...hehehe...I thought I was just simply replying... hmm.....

This also serves to provide some "Entertainment" and "Drama" for brothers following the thread, so that maybe more people can comment and boost our pages to 200 quicker.. hahahahaha...

BRING IT ON BROs!!!

Cheerio~!

Re: ShangHai Recommendation!

Need some advice from the expert here.

I am planning to move to Shanghai sometime in the middle of this month. I will be staying in local rented apartment. I am planning to stay in Shanghai for about 1 to 2 months to try out if I can adapt to the live there. During my stay in Shanghai, I need to travel to countries like Hong Kong, Taipei, Thailand and etc approximately once every week or two to see my customers. The during for each of these trip is usually 4-5 days.

I read from some forum in the net that if a foreigner intend to live extended period in Shanghai, he should register with the local police to get a "Residence Permit". If he travel out of China and return back, he should re-register again each time.

In my case, do I need to register with the local police for a "residence Permit"? Do you guys living / station in Shanghai register this?

I hope people with experience here can advise me on this.

Best regards,
Cateyes1001

hi there,

yes actually u need to register urself with the local authorities within 3 days of arriving in shanghai (check ur area where this permit is done not any police station also can)..ppl staying in hotels..the hotels will do it for you....
but depends on what u have planned for urself...if u r here for only 1 or 2 months and flying back after that...your visa allows you to stayed up to 2 months...you can dun report...i dun find it a big problem....

if u plan to extend ur stay n visa its better for u to do it...cos they require the yellow piece of paper to process the visa....

if u had registered once and u fly in n out of the country often, u dun have to re-register everytime...the yellow piece of paper is a temporary residence permit and there is a time (no. of days) stated on the paper that allows u to stay (will go according to ur visa and passport) so if 60 days then u went on the 3rd day they will write 57 days...so when this expire u need to register again...

if u r alone n staying in ur rented apartment, bring along the contract n ask ur landlord along or friend to get this done. I went with a friend and his dad did it for me but the address is his place not my own place...hahaha..just need the paper to extend my stay thats all...
I fly out every 2 months previously...but this time i did the permit thing so i can extend my stay here.
if u r posted by ur company here, i'm sure ur company will arrange the things for u.

As there are a lot of ppl coming in and out of shanghai from other provinces..its just a way for them to keep track i reckon...if not u will be consider an alien.. ....

Welcome to Shanghai

regards
nongho

Re: ShangHai Recommendation!

nongho,

Thanks for your advice. I will be staying in SHA for about a month or 2 get get a feel of living in SHA. I am not posted there by my company, so everything will be on my own. My company does not border where I work out from as long as I am connected via internet, meet my overseas customers regularly and most importantly meet my sales targets.

Am I correct to say through your experience, I need not apply for the temporary residence permit with my 60 days visa and travel in and out of China say weekly or bi-monthly for about 3 or more days duration for each trip? In this case, do I write the actual address that I stayed in the arrival/departure card or just fake a hotel name in it?

I appreciate if you can advise me on this.

Best regards,

sorry for the late reply.....
if u r just staying here for the 60 days...then i would recommend u to avoid the hassle...as long as ur visa is a multi entry...everytime u go out n come back in..they will stamp 60 days....so u can go in and out as many times as u wish...just check that ur visa is multi entry not a single entry....
so actually the 60 days doesn't border u...the 60 days start when u arrive at the airport from wherever u come from...
hope u r not confused...meaning if u came in..they stamp 60 days...1 week later u fly out again and come back after 3 days...they stamp 60 days again...
as for the arrival/departure card..dun have to be precise...normally i just say the city 'Shanghai' or 'Shanghai-pudong'...thats it....if they ask u say u r not sure as u have not found a hotel yet or u dunno where ur frens have arrange for ur accomodation......i just find that column redundant...and so many people coming in n out of the airport..they won't be checking every details...

cheers

Re: ShangHai Recommendation!

Thank you brothers for your recommendation. I have gone through the thread but it is very extensive and i somehow cannot find the addresses i am seeking.

I have narrowed down some places that I MUST check out during my one week stay there. Sadly, i only will have one friday and sat to go full swing as I am taking the midnight flight back on Sun morning.

However i plan to get lucky at least 3 nights....heheh.

Anyway, the places i narrowed down are:

KTV: jin bi hui huang (still looking for address), jin se nian hua (address unknown, but read that its quite reasonable priced), qun xing hui 1 & 2 (address for 2 found, but not 1) and 'ÌÀÄ·Éú' (opposite singapore art museum), and ÌìÉÏÈ˼䡣

PUBS & Discos: galaxy hotel, 'real love' at heng shan rd, fuxing park '97', Puj's at grand hyatt jin mao da sha, and shui cheng rd/xian xia rd red light district.

It would be very much appreciated if experienced brothers out there can reply with addresses that i am still looking for, and which days are recommended to check out the ktvs and pubs. shanghai is very big, and my time is very limited there...sigh...so would like to make every after hours count.

Will promise a full length FR when i get back.

Cheers!!!

Hi nongho,

Thank you very much for your experience advice. Yes, my visa is 60 days multiple entries with 1 year validity. Hopefully, I can get used to the live in SHA when I stay there.

Sorry to ask for another question here. Is there a Singapore community or association in SHA which I can join when I move to SHA?

Best regards,
