Yes, I would always ask them to take registered taxi also, from hotels... And nego the rates properly before stepping in...Usually the rates are standard from point to point. If you book for a whole day, it is better to nego.

As for the pre arrange FL, the bro only manage to book for one day. Coz she rest for 2 days to clear and sell all her barang and go back her kampong on 14th.

so there is absolutely no chance of renting motorbikes on batam? what if i want to explore the island before nightlife?

To ColtSeavers.... actually what the other bros are saying is that THEY WILL NEVER ADVISE YOU TO RENT THE MOTORCYCLE. but if you do want to rent, there are quite a few. actually, if you do have the budget, you can also rent a car for 1 whole day for something like 150.000-300.000 rupiahs (depending on the type of vehicle you will be renting.... a sedan, a minivan, or a full-sized van). my suggestion, if you want to rent, you can check any of the dailies or tabloids that circulate in batam. again, you really have to haggle with the price because, if they know you are not ann indonesian, they will sure as hell "top-up" their prices....

and oh, i almost forgot. if you do rent a vehicle, be careful with the traffic as indonesian drivers are perhaps one of the most reckless (pls note, one of the most, i didn't say they are) drivers in the world....

the difference between bali n Batam is that batam is a industrial pulau where 10ton lorry and long trailer rules the road...laws n regulations in batam are very different from sillypore..veh insurance is an option here.doctors n medication are cheap...a 'guided' tour of batam is definately safer than 'free n easy'.there are certainly places to explore in batam but if you insist on renting a bike...what about purchasing a used-one??they are pretty cheap abt 4-6jt(2-3yrs old).just remember to get your int'l license..

Usually beers and drinks are paid upon serving... that way, no hanky panky on their side....

The beer is about 30K per bottle nowdays. Old liao... just order and drink, with couple of friends, plus some times stout which is more expensive... so cant really remember, come only pay, plus food too, usually one sitting 300K and above...

So if you say about 10 person, 20 over bottles of beer is nothing much.. I am quite a heavy drinker myself, and usually we average about 5 bottles per person with friends.

Anyway, I still trust A1 FC operators, never gotten any problems, price or quality of fun.... They show me the bills each time I ordered the food( non zhi char) and drinks are settled on the spot..... So no trouble...

To add on, the police here are no so friendly either....Not to forget that there are funny rules here on accidents as well... that if your vehicle got more wheels than the other party vehicle, you are at fault, even if he ram you from behind.

Traffic rules here? Only one sentence.... NO RULES....

If you want to explore the island, one day is not enough... Cheonging mall areas are mostly in Nagoy/Jodoh area. Penuin area most chinese, Batam centre mostly developing and big masjid there, and sungei panas got the big buddha temple. Other places are industrial parks and living areas. Barelang bridge and the other islands are mostly inhabited, unless you want to see more kampong farmers. Resorts are many, and it is better you book thru angency in singapore and they pick you up direct.

Food wise, there are plenty of good spots that are out of town, and you need people to take you there.

In short, you want to explore, there are plenty of places to go, but to drive on your own, I advise against it.

Tried so many places in batam for seafood so far in my opinion Batu Besar Rezeki still the best.Abit far off but its ok seafood are fresh u can select on your own.Prices resonable too, not like the foodcourt once they know u are a foreigner they jack up prices.Windsor charged beer close to Singapore price when i question abt the bills how they derived to the amt then only they discounted.So pls check your bills.
