I bought a book from the Ex .Vietnam camp museum about 3 years ago which I haven't shared in this forum before, so I thought maybe its a good time to share it here with you (and the rest).

* i actually bought 3 of those books (not cheap for a book with just a few pages), 2 of which i gave it to bros who joined me to the camp as souvenirs. One of them married an Indo girl from Batam many months later, hehehe...really brings back some good memories.

More than half a million Vietnamese has died at sea trying to get to the camp which could only accommodate 80k people. The place end up having 250k people passing (and living) by there. Many died a terrible death, unable to shut eye, some even w/o a grave. To date, there are still nameless tombstone at the camp tho.

The Nanking massacre in China was 30k of people who died in a one shot one killed situation. This one is a prolong suffering for a long period of time till death and many suicidal event was due to hopelessness. There was so much twisted-mind "negativity" during those period.

There was like hundreds of Tombstone all over the camp too (some of which were moved back to their hometown).

I went to recce Da Vienna finally. Long time I wanted to do that.
My heart is stuck with Formosa, but Da Vienna is another category.

PROs
New, stilish, upper-scale lobby looking 2 stars higher.
New rooms, definitely another planet compared to Formosa.
Bathroom too is another thing. Junior Suite has bath tab designed for 1 but also can accomodate 2 (no more than 2, regrettably).
Also located conveniently in front of Windsor at the side of Harmoni Suites. 5 minutes walking from Nagoya Hill and Formosa.
It's an upper category, new and designed for the international traveller. It looks like a standard upper class hotel, while Formosa has something that makes me feel I am away, something "on the border".

CONs
A bit more expensive than Formosa.
The bed is very good and new, but standard size for 2. I am used to the huge bed of Formosa, which can accommodate 3 comfortably (yes, that's my favourite). I wonder if I could adapt to the standard bed for 2.

In addition to these cons, I wonder if the Da Vienna staff at night would be so understanding with me as in Formosa.
Yesterday, I brought back to my room from Pacific 3 girls (my friend #1, her friend #2 who spent the night with us some nights ago already, and another new friend #3, who #1 kindly introduced to me yesterday) and nobody made a fuss if 4 people were going to sleep in a room for 2. This is why I love this place.

(there is another reason why I am resisting to the idea to change hotel: the fond memories. Whenevere I enter Formosa I feel the ghosts of the girls I met in the last 7-8 years, I feel the memories of my adventures all around me. For me, Batam IS Formosa and its business rooms)

Confirmed Bei Long is at A2 food court . Their mee pangsit good too though Bai Long one slightly tastier. Bei Long selling laksa also ...looks and tastes good too.

I have never failed to go to the nearby Eatern Food Court for the fried snapper fillet and fish head yam soup. Not cheap and crowded. But very nice and fresh fishes. Have to be there before 12 pm. Normally sold out by 1pm.

Does A2 bei long open in the morning?

I have been there at A2 Bei Long as early as 1030am-11am in the morning during the CNY time. Cant be eating Meximo pub noodles all the time,hehehe...

If you wish to escape the tourists there,try to go after 230pm and seat at around the MM siok bak store 'almost' outside the food court,that location allows me to see people stepping into the food court (and leaving) and becos it is near to the drinks store,not many customers will walk until there. The bad thing is,the staffs there cannot see you clearly and will usually heck care you even when you signal out to them.

Weekdays,230pm to 5pm is the quietest time at A2 food court (applies to most food places too). I like to avoid the possibly terrorist attack timing,hehehe...and at times,even places too. I just dont like crowded places.

Below is one of a restaurant near the theater entrance at Nagoya Hill Mall,notice how quiet it is when i have my lunch there? I like to go to spa like this,go to Massage shops and joints with that "same" theory...no competitions no one disturbing me (and i get personal touch service),hehehe...no one outside can even get to see me when i pick a little corner table there too.

I've been there few times but I'm always lone ranger so there isn't much I could explore. I'm planning to go over since my last trip has been a year ago Miss the spas over there & hopefully get to find indo chinese this time.

I really cannot understand why some people keeps on seeking IndoChinese in Batam...
If you like Chinese, I would say: stay in Singapore (provided that you cannot move to HK or PRC easily).

1) IndoChinese are the richest segment of population. Did you notice most restaurant owners are Chinese?
=> that makes unlikely to have IndoChinese girls choosing this job in a massage joint because in need of money (this job is not the one a girl would dream about).

2) I love Chinese girls! Well, with all due respect, IndoChinese are mostly very ugly. Protruding chin and crooked stick are common. The last girls who flash my attention in Batam are the IndoChinese.
(but there are the Singaporean Chinese who are a totally different story... Too bad my chances with them are ZERO)
