Did a 2 day 1 night staycation in batam last fri to sat. Basically the plan is to nua in hotel room and gorge myself on the affordable food there. (It quite sucks to be back working in sg!) The maths is: two-way ferry tkt plus one night stay in formosa cost slightly more than 100bucks, which can't even get me a nights stay in hotel 81! So did not get any cewek's company during the stay.

Just like to share what I experienced on ferry, taxi and massage that was discussed here in recent days:

FERRY:
Took the 9.40am Horizon ferry (fka Prima) to Batam. Got the new business class ticket for extra 8SGD (sg to batam only). I didn't need the business class, but just got it for novelty sake.
1. There wasn't priority boarding nor priority alighting (at least on my particular trip). Not sure if it was inconsistent service or they made tweaks to what business class had to offer.

2. The seats were luxurious and spacious, nice leather seats (or it could be pvc, can't tell cuz its so new). Sighted a pretty indo-chinese "stewardess" when I just boarded but she was no where in sight throughout remainder of the trip.

3. When the ferry start moving, the "stewards" served things like mineral water, mints, nuts, etc. Also free newspaper to Batam Post and Today (which can be obtained FOC from mrt station).

4. When alighting, economy class was alighting together with biz class, so no priority alighting on my particular ride.

Overall, nice and comfortable ride. But I guess normal economy class will suffice for me next trip.

TAXI:
1. From harbour bay, asked a driver and was quoted 50k. Tried asking for 40k but the driver was insistent on 50k so I jus boarded. My guess is its due to the petrol price hike in Indonesia

2. From Formosa back to harbour bay, I just took the "hotel taxi" just for convenience. Rate had increased 50k (from my previous trip less than 2 months ago) to current 60k. The petrol price hike was cited for the price increase

Besides that did not take any taxi as I just rotted away in hotel room, only walking out to ta bao alot of food to gorge on in the comfort of the hotel room.

MASSAGE:
As mentioned, the trip's motive is just to rot, I only went for king's massage inside formosa. Just lazy move.

1. Upon check in at formosa, I called up king's massage at 11am indo time and asked for a in-room massage. Haha they sent a AUNTIE so wiped off any thoughts of getting any special. Though she did offer "special massage cock", the offer was politely turned down. Massage was very good, which I totally enjoyed. Damage 100k for 1 hr.

2. The next day, after I checked out of the hotel room, went back up to King's massage for another massage before departure. Was assigned a petite syt with slim figure. Massage was as good as the previous day's. So at the end was offered hj for 300k and fj for 600k. I asked for 400k fj and deal on (yes I may have overpaid, pls don't flame me). Fj was good for me. The whole trick of getting cheaper taxi ride is,when MANY passengers alighted from ferry,there are lots of them willing to pay the higher 50k and above prices,but after MOST passengers are flush off by the 1st batch of crocodile taxi drivers,the remainder taxi drivers got no choice but to lower their rates cos ferry passengers are lesser then. And it only takes 20mins or so of waiting.

In other word,when the whole ferry load of people alight from ferry,it directly creates a HIGH demand for taxis. When these ferry load of people disappear in about 20 mins time,demand will drop drastically,hence the lower price.

I always go to departure hall where taxi driver drops their customer to head to board ferry to smoke 1st,then observe...being approached by taxi drivers and then i bargain. Taxi driver open mouth price is 60k (i heard recently) versus getting 30k is double the amount. Maximum i will pay for taxi from Harbour Bay to Kaha,then to Formosa is 40k.

Hehehe...what is 10k to 30k rupiah for any Sillypore tourist in Batam,just like what is S$50 to S$100 for a China/Dubai/Germany tourist in Sillypore....lol.

Alternatively beside just being another haunted room in Formosa Hotel,I think he could be another nono1973-look-alike who likes to go to the right side audio store (facing lucky plaza) from Formosa building,get an audio cable from there and connect it to the LCD TV from his comp and blast up the volume while watching porn or at least keep the volume high up when he is not in-room,hehehe....

This is an experience from about a year plus ago, so take it for what you think it's worth.

I was on the late afternoon ferry to Batam. By the time I check into Lovinna Inn, it was about 7pm local time. That evening, I knew that I was going to book a cewek from memory ktv ( heard that it's closed down already, known to have many "young" ceweks at that joint) so, I told the first driver that approached me that I was only going to pay him 20k rp for bringing me to chicken farm. Of course,I didn't say I was going to book from memory only ( in case there really no stock Lah). At first he reject, saying too low.

I could have walked then, but it was quite late already.. I told him that it's not too low since he'll be getting commission from my booking too. Maybe it helps that I speak a bit of bahasa. I also emphasize that if he didn't want to take me, I'll just talk to other taxi driver as I walk in the direction of memory ktv until one takes me for 20k or until I'm too near to memory ktv to justify taking a taxi. The thing is... there are so many taxi drivers in Batam I suspect that if you throw a stone blindly, you'll hit one.

After weighing 20k plus commission versus 40k he quoted me initially, he decide to take the former.

This works maybe because (I think):

2. Lovinna Inn is at Nagoya area and there are many many taxis and ojets around = competition

1. I speak a bit of bahasa and spoke to him about the commission system. Always have a bit of local knowledge if you want to get any leverage in your negotiations. This not only apply to Batam taxi, but also in many of our life's situation.

0. My first stop is memory ktv which is not far away from Lovinna Inn = potential hit at first chicken house = quick turnaround for him.

Just my 2 rp .. remember, it's from 1 year plus ago.

Room 207 is a non-smoking room,the non-smoking section of formosa is known to be a little...erm...erm...*cough* ...but i heard they close up those "rooms" liao. Which means you wont get a chance to check-in into it.

Care to share which floor? In my last trip,tho i didnt have an air-con issue,toilet issue etc,but some bros who joined me on my trip has.

My solution for weak air con :

1. Get the smallest Deluxe room available in the hotel. Preferable their Junior suite. Smaller room,air con require lesser strength to cool,uses less energy too.

2. Room w/o windows are usually cooler. Smoker room usually has a better ventilation. But most smoker room has windows.

3. Control of in-room temperature is on the wall,not anywhere else. DO NOT MAX IT,but instead put it to nearly maximum.

4. Control of Fan strength of the air-con is at the side of YOUR BED,with some Chinese wordings. There are 3 fan speed button to press and you can even turn off the air-con fan from there,not on the wall switch. This is very important to anyone with air con issues at Formosa.

5. If all else fail,dont be shy...call the reception for a room change even if its middle of the night. Weekdays surely not a problem to change,but Fri ,Sat and Sun almost sure wont have enough to go around.

In my 1st 2 trips in Batam,YES. After that never had any issue at all.(touch wood) The air con is always freezingly cold to some extend that i sometime need to turn it all off in the middle of the night. During day time,most in-room air con are not-so-cold.

Formosa air con problem and toilet cannot flush complains are common issues. 1st thing i check-in to room,i flush the toilet twice 1st to check if its working.

My only problem with Formosa Hotel is that my room is meant for 2 person,but there is always only 1 set of tooth brush,1 set of slipper etc. I think they like me to call them to deliver those things over so they can get the tipping...lol. But i dont do that anymore after my 2nd trip to Batam,i just buy the things i need from the provision shop at the ground floor of the Hotel which is cheaper than tipping them. I am stingy,hehehe...lol.

Oh,one more thing,Formosa uses Darlie tooth paste,the woman version called Hei Mei (black girl),not Hei Ren (black people) toothpaste. Didnt like that too. I only call them for 2 extra Pillows,2 extra towel and 1 extra roll of toilet paper. Occasionally i will ask them to move the massage chair (the one from Kings Massage) to my room too...lol. Cushion massage chair sometime will have bugs,so i need the extra towel as cover sheets.

Last issue i have that no one has ever brought up in this thread regarding Batam's hotel room is,anyone feeling body itchy when/while sleeping naked in bed? Any solution to share beside just going to buy Febreeze from super market to spray on the bed's linen cover?

LOL - not in batam - but I figured out why I also feel itchy when on mongering trips; it's because I take at least 4 or more showers each day and my skin all dried out!
