What are you going to use VPN for?

Do you want it to bypass censorship or are you going to use it for anonymity?

Yes IPvanish will serve both purposes but all VPNs will result in slower connections.

If you just want to bypass censorship then using google DNS is a better choice because it has no effect on connection speeds and it could well speed up your connection.

If you want anonymity then VPN is the way to go but it would be best if you choose one that allows payment via bitcoin. Once you pay via CC the anonymity that you were seeking becomes an illusion.
