Re: Story: The Invitation

Time: Thursday
Location: Office

One more day to the D Day H Hour. Tomorrow night I would be having dinner with the person who nominated me and we would proceed to have some fun in the night.

Deep in my heart, I had been praying for that person to be Michelle. Every time we came across each other during work, my heart would flutter. It almost seem like falling in love all over again. It had been a while since I had this feeling.

Possibly because I had been too focused in my work all these while. Possibly because I had grown too used to my lovely wife, and the heart no longer fluttered like we used to be. Possibly because Michelle had grown even sexier after marriage. You know how some people always said, a newly wed woman is always the sexiest because you start to have the allure of a real woman. Possibly a bit of sex does make a woman sexier.

For the past two days, I had been trying to test whether Michelle was the person who nominated me. Dropped a little hint here and there. Cracked a joke now and then to see her reaction. Perfectly normal. Could I be wrong?

I was starting to get worried that it was not Michelle who nominated me.

What if....what if...it....was....

Before I could reach that thought, something happened.

2.32 pm.

Japan had a massive earthquake. the Nikkei Index was having a free fall, dragging all the regional stock exchanges down. Hang Seng was down 4.5%. STI was falling 3%. Everywhere across the Pacific region was having a bloodbath.

We were all called in for an emergency meeting. Our top brass briefed us on the situation and summarized our exposure to the market. Our own trading assets coupled with all the high net worth clients under our wing amounted to billions of dollars. We needed to make a call now in this situation.

Long. Short. Or hold.

Obviously, when we had such a situation, the top brass would not make a call. He would usually leave that to the next in line, which would be myself or George. If we made the right call, our boss would gain all the credit. If we made the wrong call, the axe would fall on us. That's the rule of the game. We were used to it.

So now the world was looking at Wilson vs George.

Long story short. Our calls made were opposite. We presented our case. My boss took my position.

5.30 pm.

Market closed. I made the right call. Scored a beautiful victory.

My team was celebrating. George's team was deflated. That's our life.

I was exhausted. Such sessions usually drained me completely. I went to wash my face at the gents.

Suddenly felt a pull at my stomach. Nature's call. Big business. Went into one of the cubicle.

Some people came into the toilet as well.

"Can't stand the face of them. They are just lucky. Do they have to be so cocky?"

It was George and a couple of his lackeys.

"Huh I shall see how long can that Wilson be so cocky. I will make him pay after tomorrow night."

"What? What is going to happen tomorrow? The market will turn tomorrow?"

"Nay nothing to do with the market. His luck will run out after tomorrow night."
