Eric Khoo starts filming erotic movie




SINGAPORE: Local film director Eric Khoo has started work on his next movie, an erotic film titled In The Room, together with Distribution Workshop, a production outfit from Hong Kong.


Starring Hong Kong actress Josie Ho (Contagion, The Twins Effect), the movie takes place in a single hotel room and will feature six couples of various nationalities through the decades, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The entertainment news outlet also reported that In The Room is billed as a "rare foray into the sensual" for Singapore.

“It’s a high-concept erotic movie. It will be controversial. But it’s erotic and serious, not porn, all about relationships and history and love, it’s very powerful,” Jeffrey Chan, Distribution Workshop CEO, was quoted as saying in The Hollywood Reporter.

This marks Eric Khoo's first live-action movie after he directed animated feature Tatsumi in 2011. It is also the first time Khoo is shooting on a soundstage set, TODAY reported in April.

Khoo also told the newspaper that the film will be shot on a budget. Hong Kong producer Nansun Shi is producing the US$800,000 (S$1 million) film.

Filming was planned to start in mid-August, based on a casting call posted on Eric Khoo's production house Zhao Wei Films' website.

Khoo told TODAY in April that the movie was inspired by Puchon in South Korea, which he described as a "super Geylang".

"Puchon is also known to be a place 30 minutes outside of Seoul, where a lot of people go for sex," said Khoo. "They have all these exciting bedrooms and sometimes when you walk into one, you see things that were left behind ... It’s almost like if walls can talk, right?"
