Barcelona 3 - 1 Sporting Lisbon : Barca survive Sporting scare

Barcelona kicked off their Champions League campaign with 3-1 victory over Iberian neighbours Sporting Lisbon at the Nou Camp on Tuesday.

Goals from Rafael Marquez and Samuel Eto'o had put Barca in control, and although Sporting threatened to put the cat among the pigeons by pulling a goal back through Antonio Tonel, Xavi's late strike ended any chance of a shock comeback.

Sporting Gijon 1 - 6 Barcelona : Barca register first Liga win in style

Barcelona secured their first league win of the season in style on Sunday as they thrashed newly promoted Sporting Gijon 6-1.

Goals from Xavi and Samuel Eto'o gave the Catalans a comfortable lead at half-time and an own goal from Jorge Garcia extended their advantage just short of the hour.

Francisco Maldonado pulled a goal back for the hosts a minute later but any chance of a Sporting revival disappeared when Gerard was shown the red card for holding back Lionel Messi in the area.

Barca made their numerical advantage count as Andres Iniesta netted a fourth after 70 minutes and Messi bagged a late brace to complete the humiliation.

Barcelona 3 - 2 Real Betis : Barca's second win in a row

Eidur Gudjohnsen's late strike gave Barcelona a 3-2 victory at home to Real Betis after the Catalans had thrown away a two-goal lead.

Samuel Eto'o put Barcelona in front after 17 minutes and the Cameroon striker doubled the hosts' advantage shortly afterwards.

But Betis improved after the break and pulled a lucky goal back through Luciano Monzon on the hour.

And the Andalusians stunned the Nou Camp with a shock equaliser eight minutes later, when Jose Mari took advantage of some poor Barcelona defending to level the scores.

Gudjohnsen's late winner gave Barca it's first Liga home win of the season at Nou Camp.

Espanyol 1 - 2 Barcelona : Barca win Catalan derby with 2 late goals

Lionel Messi's stoppage-time penalty gave Barcelona a 2-1 win they barely deserved in the city's derby against Espanyol in the Primera Liga on Saturday night.

Ferran Corominas struck after 19 minutes to give Espanyol the lead after Victor Valdes had fumbled horribly and Barca struggled to find a way back into the game until Thierry Henry levelled somewhat fortuitously half an hour into the second period.

Espanyol played the whole of the second half with 10 men following the dismissal of Nene and looked to have held on for a point, but Samuel Eto'o won a penalty in the last minute of added time and Messi stepped up to coolly slot home the winner.

Barca's 3rd consecutive win propels them to 3rd in the table.

Two late goals from substitute Lionel Messi sealed a dramatic 2-1 win for Barcelona over Shakhtar Donetsk and maintain their 100% start in Champions League Group C.

Ilsinho's goal at the end of the first half looked to have secured the points for the hosts, but Argentina winger Messi struck twice in the last four minutes to turn the match on its head and put Barca in a strong position to progress to the knockout stage.

Barcelona 6 - 1 Atlético Madrid : Goal rush for Barcelona

Barcelona scored five times in the first 28 minutes on the way to thrashing Atletico Madrid 6-1 on an incredible night at the Nou Camp on Saturday.

Rafa Marquez, Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi put the locals three up inside eight minutes as the game got off to an explosive start.

Maxi Rodriguez pulled one back for Atletico five minutes later, but Eto'o restored Barca's three-goal advantage shortly afterwards and Eidur Gudjohnsen added a fifth for the home side short of the half-hour mark.

The second half was less intense, but Thierry Henry wrapped up a brilliant Barcelona win with his side's sixth after 73 minutes.

The hosts had been expected to coast past their Swiss visitors after recording a 5-0 triumph in Basle a fortnight ago.

Barcelona 6 - 0 Valladolid: Eto'o hits four

Samuel Eto'o struck four first-half goals as Barcelona thrashed Real Valladolid 6-0 at the Nou Camp on Saturday night.

The Cameroon striker was left on the bench for Tuesday night's Champions League draw at home to Basle, but was restored to the starting line-up for this match by coach Pep Guardiola and fired a brilliant quadruple in the first half to set Barcelona on their way to an eighth successive Primera Liga victory.

Eto'o opened the scoring after 12 minutes, adding a second on the half-hour mark and completing his hat-trick in the lead-up to half-time.

The African striker then added a fourth goal a minute before the interval to round off a superb first half for the Catalan side.

That strike also saw Eto'o match the feat achieved earlier in the day by Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain, who bagged all four goals in Real Madrid's 4-3 win over Malaga at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Eidur Gudjohnsen and Thierry Henry also netted late on to complete a fantastic win for Guardiola's side.

Barcelona 1 - 1 Getafe: Barca held at home

Barcelona saw their lead cut to three points at the top of the Primera Liga and their nine match winning streak come to an end following a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Getafe.

Pep Guardiola's side have been virtually unplayable in the league at the Nou Camp this season, racking up 17 goals and conceding just one in their last three Primera Liga matches at home.

But they were frustrated by a stubborn Getafe side, who took the lead through Manu Del Moral after 19 minutes.

And Barcelona, missing Lionel Messi through injury, struggled to find a way back into the game.

The Catalans eventually equalised through Seydou Keita after 71 minutes, but were unable to secure a 10th straight league win despite their late pressure, and they now lead the Primera Liga by just two points from bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Barcelona sealed top spot in Group C of the Champions league courtesy of a night of high farce among the Sporting Lisbon defence.

Barcelona were 3-0 up within 50 minutes courtesy of goals from Thierry Henry, Gerard Pique and Lionel Messi, before Sporting pulled two back in two minutes through Miguel Veloso and Liedson.

Barcelona 3 - 1 Mallorca: Iniesta to the rescue

Andres Iniesta returned from injury to fire an important goal as Barcelona beat Mallorca 3-1 in the Primera Liga.

Iniesta was injured in Barcelona's 1-1 draw at home to FC Basle in the Champions League back in early November and had not played since.

But he stepped off the substitutes' bench to poke home the crucial second goal just as it seemed Mallorca might hold on for an unlikely point at the Nou Camp.

Aritz Aduriz gave the visitors a surprise lead after 15 minutes following some sloppy Barcelona defending, but Thierry Henry brought the Catalans level with a finely-taken equaliser on the half-hour mark.

The league leaders completely dominated the second half but were unable to find a way through until Iniesta's crucial strike 15 minutes from time.

Yaya Toure added an impressive third in the dying seconds after Mallorca had been reduced to 10 men following Josemi's dismissal.

Atletico Madrid 1 - 3 Barcelona: Messi hat trick

A superb Lionel Messi hat-trick gave Barcelona a 3-1 win over 10-man Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their last 16 King's Cup tie on Tuesday.

Barcelona made most of the early running at a chilly Vicente Calderon despite resting key players from the team who beat Real Mallorca at the weekend, including Xavi and Samuel Eto'o.

A deft piece of skill from Daniel Alves unlocked the Atletico defence for Messi's opening goal on 12 minutes.

The Argentine international played the ball inside and Alves sent a clever backheel through for him to run on and place a low shot past Gregory Coupet.

Atletico had to play with 10 men for most of the second half after defender John Heitinga felled Messi in the penalty area as he was racing to meet an Alves cross.

The referee showed the Dutchman a red card and Messi sent Coupet the wrong way to double Barca's lead before substitute Tomas Ujfalusi pulled a goal back just over 10 minutes later with a header from Simao Sabrosa's corner.

Messi completed his hat-trick on 80 minutes when he picked the ball up in the area, wrong-footed Coupet and lifted the ball into the roof of the net.

Two goals in the last 10 minutes saw Barcelona come from behind to beat a spirited Osasuna side 3-2 at the Reyno de Navarra in the Primera Liga and move 12 points clear of bitter rivals Real Madrid at the top of the table.

Samuel Eto'o put Barca in front with a low drive late in the first half after the league leaders had completely dominated the first 45 minutes.

But Miguel Flano equalised with a looping header just after the hour mark and Walter Pandiani fired the home side in to an improbable lead 10 minutes later.

Bottom club Osasuna looked then as if they may hold on for a much-needed victory, but Xavi and Lionel Messi both struck in the final 10 minutes to give Pep Guardiola's side a sixth consecutive league win - their 14th in the last 15 Primera Liga matches.

Barcelona 5 - 0 Deportivo La Coruña: Barca in firing mood

Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o both struck twice as Barcelona thrashed 10-man Deportivo La Coruna 5-0 at the Nou Camp to amass a record total of 50 points at the league's halfway stage.

Lionel Messi gave Pep Guardiola's side the lead with a fine individual strike after 21 minutes and Henry headed the Catalans two up shortly afterwards following a fine cross by Dani Alves.

Eto'o then added a third four minutes before half-time to put the league leaders out of reach at the break.

Henry struck his second of the night late on from close range and Eto'o blasted home the fifth from the penalty spot after Deportivo goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia had upended Carles Puyol.

Barcelona 4 - 1 Numancia: Barca marches on

Barcelona's trusty trio of forwards all struck in the second half as the league leaders defeated a stubborn Numancia side 4-1 to move provisionally 15 points clear at the top of the Primera Liga.

Barca were frustrated in the first half by the plucky promoted outfit, but imposed themselves with a classy second-half performance.

Lionel Messi grabbed a brace, while Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry also scored to hand Pep Guardiola's side an eighth consecutive league win and a 17th in their last 18 games.

Lionel Messi came off the bench to score twice as nine-man Barcelona came from behind to beat Racing Santander 2-1 at El Sardinero.

The runaway Primera Liga leaders appeared to be in trouble when Nikola Zigic put the Cantabrians ahead from the penalty spot early in the second half.

But Pep Guardiola turned to Messi in his moment of need and the Argentina forward turned the game on its head with two well-taken goals.

However, the late dismissals of Rafa Marquez and Gerard Pique did take some of the gloss off the result after both players were given their marching orders for second bookable offences in the closing stages.

Barcelona 1-2 Espanyol: Barca's shocking loss

Ten-man Barcelona saw their lead at the top of the Primera Liga cut to seven points after losing 2-1 at home to bottom club Espanyol in the city's derby at the Nou Camp.

Former Barca player Ivan De La Pena did the damage with two goals shortly after the interval, when the home side were already a man down following the first-half dismissal of Seydou Keita.

Yaya Toure pulled a goal back for the home side not long after that, but Pep Guardiola's men were unable to come back this time and saw their lead cut by Real Madrid, who thrashed Real Betis 6-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona moved nine points clear at the the Primera Division summit - for a couple of hours at least - with a narrow but richly-deserved 1-0 victory at Getafe.

Pep Guardiola's team dominated the first half but had only one Lionel Messi goal to show for their toils due to the outstanding performance of on-loan goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic.

The second half was not quite so one-sided but Getafe did not have the cutting edge to trouble Victor Valdes and in truth Barca should have extended their advantage at a rainy Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Sergio Aguero pulled a goal back for the visitors on the stroke of half-time and Diego Forlan added a second for Abel Resino's side late on.

Barcelona saw their Primera Liga lead cut to a solitary point by Real Madrid as they were held to a goalless draw by Valencia at the Mestalla - and they will be relieved to have escaped with that result.

Pablo Hernandez went close from his own half and strike partner Juan Mata missed a host of chances, while David Silva was denied by Victor Valdes from the best opportunity of the match.

Rodriguez Pedrito and Yaya Toure threatened for Barca, but they will be happy to take a share of the spoils and remain a point ahead of arch-rivals Madrid, who beat Real Valladolid 4-2.

Barcelona 1 - 2 FK Rubin Kazan : Barca sunk by Russian submarine at Nou Camp

Gokdeniz Karadeniz stuck a second-half winner as Rubin Kazan claimed a shock Champions League victory over reigning European champions Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Karadeniz netted with 17 minutes to go to earn the Russian champions their first win in Group F and inflict a first competitive defeat over Barcelona since May. It was also the first European defeat Pep Guardiola's men had suffered since losing at home to Shakhtar Donetsk last December having already qualified for the last 16.

An upset had been on the cards from the opening two minutes when Rubin took the lead through Alexander Ryazantsev's long-range piledriver out of the blue, and although Barca levelled up through a fine Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal just after half-time, it was the visitors who went on to claim a memorable victory thanks to Karadeniz.

Seydou Keita scored a hat-trick as Barcelona put their recent indifferent form behind them with a brilliant performance to thrash Zaragoza 6-1 at the Nou Camp.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic bagged a brace and Lionel Messi scored the other as the Catalans swept the visitors aside with a fine display of attacking football reminiscent of their early-season performances and the form which saw them capture the treble of Primera Division, Copa del Rey and Champions League trophies last season.

Jorge Lopez pulled a goal back for Zaragoza with 12 minutes left after Victor Valdes was unable to hold on to the initial shot.

Osasuna 1 - 1 Barcelona : Barca surrender three points at the death

League leaders Barcelona were denied victory in dramatic circumstances at Osasuna tonight as Gerard Pique put through his own net deep into injury time to give the hosts an unexpected point.

Pique was attempting to clear after a Rafa Marquez error had let in Javier Camunas, but the Spain defender could only divert the ball into his own net and Barca were forced to settle for a draw which sees their lead at the top of the Primera Division cut to just a point after Real Madrid beat Getafe earlier in the evening.

Before that, Seydou Keita's strike midway through the second half had looked enough to send the Catalans on their way to an eighth victory in nine league games.

Rubin Kazan followed up their shock victory against Barcelona a fortnight ago with a defensive masterclass to leapfrog their Catalan opponents in Champions League Group F ahead of the evening game between Dynamo Kiev and Inter Milan.

I m not a die hard Nou Camp fan,but they r a veri great team 2 watch.
Although Josep Guardiola(39 yrs old) is much younger than Real's Manuel Pellegrini(57 yrs old),currently he seems 2 be doing a much better job than Pellegrini.

Josep Guardiola succeeded Frank Rijkaard in July 2008 as the manager of Barca. He was a former Nou Camp midfielder, but has relatively no experience in management b4 his appt @ 4 the Top job @ the Nou Camp.
But in his 1st season, he has alrdy lead Barca 2 all available major honours in 2009.
(UEFA Champions League; Spanish Primera Division; Copa del Rey; Spanish Super Cup; European Super Cup & Club World Cup).

Real's Manuel Pellegrini was said 2 be 1 of the most well-respected coaches in Spain. He built his reputation in Chile & Argentina b4 making his name in Europe with Villarreal. The Chilean coach was announced as the manager of Real Madrid in June 2009.
He has assembled a veri expensive team, but he needs 2 do much better in order 2 overtake Barca in the La Liga as well as 2 win UCL title.

Barcelona showed they have plenty in reserve ahead of Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal as they beat Athletic Bilbao 4-1 with a team featuring several fringe players at the Nou Camp.

But the results were the same as the Catalans stormed to a resounding victory to move provisionally back to the top of La Liga in perfect preparation for Tuesday's clash with the Gunners.

Barcelona 3 - 1 Xerez : Catalans edge past stubborn Xerez

Barcelona suffered at times but eventually overcame rock-bottom Xerez, who ended the game with nine men, as the defending champions remained in front at the top of the Primera Division table.

The Catalans began a crucial week with the right result, although the scoreline does not tell the whole story.

Pep Guardiola's makeshift side suffered some nervy moments at 2-1 before Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the all-important third goal after 55 minutes.

Barca had looked comfortable following early goals from Jeffren Suarez and Thierry Henry, but Mario Bermejo pulled one back immediately and Xerez missed a couple of great chances to level before Ibrahimovic's strike.

Barcelona 1 - 0 Internazionale : Mourinho masterminds victory

Score: 2 - 3 (Agg)

Gerard Pique's late strike proved insufficient for Barcelona as a Jose Mourinho-inspired Inter Milan held out for more than an hour with 10 men to seal their passage to a European Cup final for the first time since 1972.

Mourinho's side, protecting a 3-1 lead from the first leg, were reduced to 10 men following Thiago Motta's 28th-minute dismissal, but the Italians defended heroically - and at times cynically - to deny Pep Guardiola's men.

Villarreal 1 - 4 Barcelona : Barca bounces back

Barcelona put the disappointment of their midweek exit from the Champions League to one side with a comfortable win at Villarreal which moves them four points clear at the top of the Primera Division table.

After being sunk by Inter Milan on Wednesday night, the Catalans faced a stern challenge to their domestic ambitions against a Villarreal side that had won their past six matches at El Madrigal.

But Pep Guardiola's side quickly extinguished the threat with three first-half goals from Lionel Messi, Xavi and Bojan Krkic to ensure a more comfortable evening than could have been expected.

Villarreal did manage to pull a goal back after the break through half-time substitute Joseba Llorente, but Barca were never stretched and Messi added his second two minutes from the end.

Barcelona 4 - 1 Tenerife : Messi scores a brace

Lionel Messi struck twice as Barcelona overcame some nervy moments to comfortably beat relegation-threatened Tenerife at the Nou Camp to put the pressure back on fierce rivals Real Madrid as the Primera Division draws to an exciting conclusion.

Madrid travel to fourth-placed Mallorca tomorrow night in what looks like the hardest remaining fixture for Manuel Pellegrini's side.

And they will need to win it after Barca saw off Tenerife thanks to goals from Messi (2), Bojan Krkic and Pedro.

But it was harder than many had expected and Barca were forced to work for their win after the Canary Islanders had equalised Messi's opener through Roman Martinez.

Sevilla FC 2 - 3 Barcelona : Barca survive Sevilla fightback

Barcelona survived an unexpected comeback from 10-man Sevilla to move closer to a second successive league title with a vital 3-2 win at the Sanchez Pizjuan on a dramatic evening of Primera Division football.

Lionel Messi gave Barca the lead after five minutes and Bojan Krkic doubled the Catalans' lead just short of the half hour mark.

Sevilla then went down to 10 men following Abdoulay Konko's dismissal 10 minutes into the second period and Barca looked to be out of sight after Pedro struck a third shortly afterwards.

But Pep Guardiola's side were forced to endure a nervous finale as Sevilla fought back with goals from Frederic Kanoute and Luis Fabiano midway through the second half.

Barcelona 4 - 0 Valladolid : Barca wins La Liga!!

Barcelona made it seven trophies out of nine in the Pep Guardiola era as they overcame a nervy opening to thrash Real Valladolid, relegated as a result, at the Nou Camp this evening and seal a second successive league title on an exciting last day of the Primera Division season.

Having won all of the first six competitions they had disputed since the arrival of coach Guardiola, the Catalans were left with just the Primera Division title to fight for at the end of this campaign, following a quarter-final exit in the Copa del Rey and a semi-final elimination in the Champions League recently.

And they were pushed all the way by fierce rivals Real Madrid in a thrilling climax to the domestic season.

But a win at home to Valladolid tonight guaranteed the title, whatever Manuel Pellegrini's side did in Malaga.

Luis Prieto's own-goal set Barca on their way after 27 minutes, and Pedro's fine strike all but sealed the title shortly afterwards, before Lionel Messi added a second-half brace to secure matters as Madrid slipped up in Malaga.

Barcelona 4-0 Sevilla : Magic Messi wins Supercopa for Barca

(Barcelona wins 5-3 on agg)

Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick as Barcelona turned around a 3-1 first-leg deficit to claim the Supercopa with an impressive win over an under-par Sevilla side at the Nou Camp on Saturday.

Five of Barca's eight Spain stars started this match, with Villa, Carles Puyol and Andres Iniesta on the bench. But it was the youngest of them all, Pedro, who set Barca on their way after 14 minutes as Abdoulay Konko scored an own goal.

The Tenerife-born forward beat two Sevilla players on the right wing, advanced into the area and saw his low cross deflected into the net by Konko. It was a soft goal from Sevilla's point of view and a bad time to concede as well.

Bojan Krkic and Maxwell both came close before Messi ran on to Xavi's perfectly-weighted slide-rule pass to slot home after 25 minutes.

A 2-0 win was all that Barca needed to reclaim the Supercopa, but there was still more than an hour to go. And Messi was in the mood.

The 24-year-old latched on to Dani Alves' pass in the area a minute before half-time and beat Andres Palop with a fierce angled shot which gave the keeper no chance.

Villa came on for his debut short of the hour mark and showed some moments of inspiration, but it was another Barca substitute, Iniesta, who created the fourth goal.

Spain's World Cup hero charged into the area in the last minute after playing a one-two with Villa and unselfishly laid the ball back for Messi, who slotted home to complete his hat-trick and round off a perfect night for the Catalan club.

Racing striker Mohamed Tchite saw his penalty saved by Barca keeper Victor Valdes moments later and Villa had an effort ruled out for offside before the break.

But the Spain striker struck again after 62 minutes with a pinpoint header to score his first goal in Barca colours and ensure an ideal start to the league campaign for the Catalans.

Barcelona were left stunned as Nelson Haedo Valdez struck twice to give promoted side Hercules a famous win at the Nou Camp.

And the Paraguay forward, making his debut for the visitors, silenced the Nou Camp with a superb second on the hour to give Hercules a two-goal lead.

Barcelona 5 - 1 Panathinaikos : Barca survives early scare to rout Greeks

A Lionel Messi-inspired Barcelona recovered from the shock of going a goal down against Panathinaikos to get their Champions League campaign off to a convincing start at Camp Nou.

Panathinaikos took the lead against the run of play through Sidney Govou in the 20th minute but Barca hit back in merciless fashion to take a 3-1 lead by half-time through two goals from the irrepressible Messi and another from David Villa.

Messi, having also hit the crossbar in the first half, spurned the chance to net his hat-trick in the 55th minute when his weak penalty was saved by Alexandros Tzorvas.

However, Messi recovered from that disappointment and set up two more goals for Pep Guardiola's side late on.

For the fourth, Pedro Rodriguez slotted in after the unlucky Messi had seen his shot strike both posts before falling perfectly to the Spain international.

Then, with the last action of the match, Dani Alves headed in Messi's magnificent scooped pass over the Greek side's overwhelmed defence.

Alves then put the result beyond doubt with the 3rd shortly in2 the 2nd period, b4 Messi scored a fine 4th aft 64 mins & Villa completed the rout rite @ the end.

Barca coach Pep Guardiola welcomed back Xavi 2 his starting 11 aft the Spain midfielder recovered fr a troublesome Achilles problem tis week.

The Catalans travel 2 Denmark 2 face FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday, but Guardiola fielded his strongest possible side 4 tis match.

Having seen fierce rivals Madrid come back 2 beat Hercules 3-1 immediately b4 tis match, Barca knew only a win would keep them in touch with the league leaders.

And it never looked in doubt aft Messi slotted home the 1st early on.

There were only 4 mins on the clock when stand-in Sevilla keeper Javi Varas parried Pedro's cross & Messi was there 2 slot home the rebound 4 his 13th of the season.

It was an unlucky 13 4 Sevilla, who beat Barca here in the Copa del Rey last season but had only won 1 of 66 matches against the Catalans @ the Nou Camp prior 2 this encounter.

Luis Fabiano drilled wide 4 the visitors & Diego Capel shot straight @ Victor Valdes fr close range as Gregorio Manzano's side sought a way back in2 the game.

But tat looked unlikely as Villa ended his recent scoring drought with a fine 2nd halfway through the 1st period.

Messi advanced down the rite & laid the ball off 2 the Spain striker, who cut in2 the area & sent an unstoppable angled drive in2 Varas' top rite-hand corner.

Villa received the plaudits fr a delighted Nou Camp crowd & came close again mins b4 the interval, when his low drive was pushed wide by the busy Varas.

Things became even more difficult 4 Sevilla jz b4 the break as Konko hacked down Pedro & was shown his 2nd yellow card of the nite.

And 2 make matters worse still, Ndri Romaric gifted the home side a 3rd 7 mins in2 the 2nd period.

The Ivory Coast player headed back 2 keeper Varas, but Alves read the pass-back & raised a leg 2 poke home fr well inside the area.

The Brazil full-back - who looked embarrassed 2 score against his former club - appeared 2 be in an offside position, but it did not matter becos the ball had been played thru by a Sevilla player.

Bojan Krkic & Javier Mascherano came on 4 Pedro & Xavi with half an hour left, but the 4th goal came fr a predictable source - Messi.

The Argentinian won the ball back in midfield, waltzed thru a crowd of players & slid a low shot past Varas jz inside the post fr the edge of the box 2 make it 4-0.

Messi was looking 4 his 2nd hat-trick against Sevilla tis season, having bagged 3 in the 4-0 Supercopa win here back in August.

He had 2 be content with 2 tis time, despite Barca controlling the game late on.

Villa saw a shot cleared off the line in the closing stages, but added his 2nd - and Barca's 5th - rite @ the death as he drilled a low left-footed drive past the hapless Varas.

Espanyol 1 - 5 Barcelona : No stopping Barca

Pedro and David Villa struck a brace apiece as Barcelona brushed aside Espanyol in the Catalan derby at Cornella tonight, ending their city rivals' perfect home record in the league this season and ensuring top spot as the Primera Division heads into the winter break.

Pedro and Xavi gave Pep Guardiola's side a healthy lead at half-time, before the Tenerife-born winger struck again in the second half.

Dani Osvaldo got one back for Espanyol after that, but Barca always looked in control and David Villa added two more late on for the visitors.

Deportivo La Coruña 0 - 4 Barcelona : Another win for Barca

Barcelona made light work of another potentially difficult away fixture as they thrashed Deportivo La Coruna 4-0 in the Primera Division.

Pep Guardiola's side won their last away match in La Liga 5-1 at city rivals Espanyol before Christmas and boast a perfect record on the road in the league this term.

That record never looked in doubt once David Villa opened the scoring after 26 minutes and Lionel Messi's brilliant free-kick at the start of the second half made it another comfortable night for the champions before late goals from Pedro and Andres Iniesta.

Barcelona 5 - 0 Real Betis : Barca takes giant step towards Copa del Rey Semi-Finals

Lionel Messi celebrated being voted the world's top player with a hat-trick as Barcelona all but secured their place in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey with a 5-0 win over Real Betis at Camp Nou.

On Monday Messi became the inaugural winner of the FIFA Ballon d'Or after scoring an astonishing 60 goals for club and country in 2010, and he was back amongst the goals tonight, netting in the 44th, 62nd and 73rd minutes to set Barca on their way to an impressive victory in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

Pep Guardiola's side then added further strikes through Pedro Rodriguez and substitute Seydou Keita in the final 14 minutes to complete the scoring and make the second leg largely academic.

Barcelona 4 - 1 Málaga : Usual routine for Barca

David Villa scored twice as Barcelona thrashed Malaga 4-1 at the Nou Camp tonight to extend their lead to four points at the Primera Division's halfway stage.

Andres Iniesta, Villa and Pedro gave Barca a 3-0 lead at the interval and the Catalans always looked comfortable, despite Duda's second half free-kick.

Villa added his second six minutes after that as Pep Guardiola's side cruised to a trademark victory - their 13th successive league win - which was made all the sweeter by Real Madrid's failure to beat bottom-of-the-table Almeria earlier on in the evening.

Real Betis 3 - 1 Barcelona : Barca through despite defeat

Barcelona survived a scare against Real Betis to book their place in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey after a 6-3 aggregate victory.

Pep Guardiola's side looked assured of their place in the last four after cruising to a 5-0 win in the first leg, but were quickly on the rack as two goals in the opening seven minutes from Jorge Molina set second-tier Betis on the way to a 3-1 win.

The result brought an end to Barca's record run of 28 games unbeaten.

The start was a humiliating one for a Barca team which, while weakened, still boasted the likes of Lionel Messi, Xavi, Javier Mascherano and Gerard Pique.

And Messi it was who restored some Catalan pride seven minutes before the break as he fired home to reduce the deficit and leave Betis needing to score seven goals to progress.

In the end the hosts could manage just one more goal, through Arzu on the stroke of half-time, but Barca's humiliation was not yet quite complete, with Messi's uncharacteristic penalty miss in the second period typifying a poor display by the Primera Division leaders.

Andres Iniesta ensured all three points early in the second half for Barca, who made it 55 points from a possible 60 in the league this season and shook off the relative disappointment of losing 3-1 to Betis in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night.
