SIX FILIPINA SEX SLAVES RESCUED FROM PETAGAS HOUSE; THREE PIMPS ARRESTED

KOTA KINABALU: They were promised well-paying jobs as waitresses in Sabah but instead ended up as sex slaves – servicing several customers a day just to pay back the people who brought them here to live a life of misery.
They were locked up in a house in Petagas and kept watch round the clock, and were only allowed out to nightclubs, karaoke joints or hotels, when they had customers. They did not get paid at all for whatever services they provided in order to pay off their ‘debt’ to the syndicate that brought them here.
On Tuesday, the six Visaya women from Zamboanga, aged between 20 and 24, were rescued from their hell hole after police raided the premises at Kampung Peringatan, Petagas, where they were being held captive following a tip off.
Police also arrested three alleged pimps and caretakers; a 47-year-old local man and two women – a 25-year-old Filipina with a passport and a 47-year-old illegal immigrant.
Assistant Commissioner Chandra Muthu, the City police chief in a statement Wednesday said the girls have been taken to a temporary shelter for protection while the trio have been remanded for six days starting Wednesday to help in investigations.
“They were brought in separately from Sandakan, Semporna and Tawau, and were promised jobs as waitresses in restaurants and pubs,” said ACP Chandra.
He said the women were controlled by their pimps and were not allowed to leave the house they were in.
“The victims would be under someone’s watch at all times and would be sent to and picked up from work,” ACP Chandra said.
The three suspects are being investigated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007.
Under Section 12 of the ATIPSOM Act, if charged and found guilty, the trio face a jail term of not more than 15 years and a fine.
Under Section 13 E of the same Act they could be jailed not less than three years but not more than 20 years and a fine.
