A man in his forties was allegedly beaten to death after a failed mediation attempt during a fight.

The incident happened in an alley behind Lorong 24A Geylang yesterday (July 9) at around 7.40am.

A passer-by had found the victim lying on the ground, motionless, prompting him to call the police, reports Lianhe Wanbao via Lianhe Zaobao.

The victim was already dead, and sported several wounds on his face, including severe bruising by his right eye, and bloodied lips.

There was also a large pile of blood below the deceased’s body.

A witness told reporters the on the day of the incident, two groups of men had started arguing at a 24-hour coffeeshop on Lorong 24A Geylang.

The victim then approached the two groups and reportedly tried to mediate the situation.

It is unknown how he ended up as a target instead.

It is believed that the victim was assaulted multiple times.

The first assault was captured by a CCTV camera of a shop nearby.

In the footage, the victim ran past a man in an orange shirt, when the latter suddenly grabbed him and threw him to the ground, punching him once, before leaving.

Another man in a white shirt then arrived, punched the victim thrice and left.

The victim was subsequently brought to his feet by another man, who tidied his shirt.

By then, the victim appeared to have sustained light injuries.

Instead of walking away, he turned back and headed in the direction of his assailants.
