Samsung to resume global sales of Galaxy Note7 in the coming weeks

By Cookie Monster on 4 Oct 2016

One month after Samsung halted sales of the Galaxy Note7 due to battery defects, the Korean company has announced that it is ready to resume sales in global markets.
Sales of the Galaxy Note7 have resumed in its home country since 1st October, and global markets will follow suit in the coming weeks. While there are ongoing replacement programs in other markets, the local exchange program had ended two days ago.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Samsung Mobile Singapore thanked its customers for their kind patience. Calling it "one of the toughest challenges" ever faced by the company, Samsung acknowledges that there is still much work to be done to regain the trust of consumers. It also urges Galaxy Note7 users who have yet to exchange their devices to do so as soon as possible.

It looks like the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 storm has abated and you'll soon be able to get a brand new, safety-approved unit soon.

South Korea first, of course

Things seem to be going well over in South Korea, where sales of the Galaxy Note 7 resumed earlier this week on 1 Oct. As to the exact dates when the phone returns to other markets, Samsung did confirm that the sales will be happening "in the coming weeks".

Samsung also detailed in full new features that will come with this updated Galaxy Note 7: the green battery icon (visible on the Status Bar), a special Power Off prompt screen accessible by long-pressing the power key as well as an Always On display screen. Another new identifier to help customers be sure they have the safe version of the phone is a square symbol on the Galaxy Note 7's phone packaging label.

The company also urged those still possessing a Galaxy Note 7 that falls under the recall program to return their current model for a new one as soon as possible. If you're unsure whether your phone is affected, find out here.

Should you be concerned about the Galaxy Note 7's safety? Considering the phone has been on sale in China without need for a recall from the beginning, it seems as though the affected models were only those with batteries made by a specific manufacturer. The quick recall and the insitution of an exchange policy means that you should be able to purchase what we called the best phone right now without worry.

If you'd been undecided between the Galaxy Note 7 and the Apple iPhone 7 Plus, we have a comparison to help you decide.
