Task force on shootings

BY JOSEPH KAOS JR

PUTRAJAYA: The police have set up a special taskforce to look into the sudden increase of shooting cases in the country.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the recent cases were not “random shootings” as they were carried out by perpetrators with their own motives.

“This is not a case of people shooting here and there for fun. There is a reason behind all these shooting cases.

“They are not just random shooting. Let us look into it,” he told reporters the open house of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the police already had a special team to handle shooting cases but a special taskforce was now added in view of the frequent shooting cases of late.

“We must track them down and ensure all those responsible for these shooting incidents are caught,” said Khalid.

The most recent incident took place on July 6 when a real estate agent was shot to death in Taman OUG, Kuala Lumpur.

On June 29, a man miraculously survived after being shot five times in his car by individuals on motorcycles along the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban highway.

Miri PKR secretary Bill Kayong was shot dead on June 21 while he was in his car at a traffic light junction in Miri.
