HOW much does a life cost? It may be less than RM5,000.
Sin Chew Daily reported that the “market price” to hire a gunman is about RM5,000, and an automatic Glock pistol could be made available at the price of RM2,000 from the black market.
Quoting sources from an unidentified security firm, most of the pistols and guns were smuggled into the country from southern Thailand.
“Pistols are cheap in the black market. It costs only about RM2,000 for an automatic Glock pistol, but if you were to go through the legal channel, it’s more than RM5,000.
“A Glock pistol has 12 to 16 bullets, which cost less than RM2 each. A bullet is as cheap as a bottle of mineral water,” the sources said.
They also revealed that the market price for a hired gunman was about RM5,000, where the “client” must pay the full sum upfront before the “mission”.
“Most of the gunmen are Indonesians, Filipinos or locals who need money, or drug addicts,” the sources said.
They said that based on observations, most of the guns used by gunmen were obtained illegally.
“It would be too dangerous for gunmen to use licensed guns as they are registered and the authorities can easily track down the owners,” the sources said.
Star CMS Security Services Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Tan Joon Kiang said the process to acquire a gun and apply for a licence was strict and time consuming.
It was reported that seven shooting cases were reported in the country since last month.
The latest incident was the gunning down of a 32-year-old real estate agent in Taman OUG, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday.
