SINGAPORE:*Thrill seekers on the Battlestar Galactica: Human vs Cylon rollercoaster at Universal Studios Singapore were stuck in mid-air when a technical error struck on Wednesday afternoon (Apr 6).

Resorts World Sentosa, where the theme park is located, told TODAY that the incident happened at about 4pm.

“Standard operating procedures were followed to evacuate riders safely from the lower section of the ride,” its spokesperson said. “The safety of our guests is our top priority and a thorough routine safety check was completed before we resumed the ride at 5.08pm.”

The theme park did not reveal how many people were affected or how long it took to evacuate the riders.

This is not the first time that the rollercoaster ride faced technical problems and flaws. In March 2010, it was ordered to close for a week after the theme park opened, because a seat fell off during a routine safety test. No one was hurt.

It re-opened nine months later in February 2011, but closed again in July 2013 because it had to undergo a review, with the resort giving no other details or how long the review would take.

After 22 months, the ride finally*resumed operations*in May 2015 featuring new two-seater cars instead of the previous four-seater ones.

Battlestar Galactica is the world’s tallest duelling rollercoaster and a star attraction at Universal Studios Singapore. The ride is themed after the hit US television science-fiction series of the same name
