Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said Singapore is still evaluating its interest in acquiring the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) aircrafts.

On the first day of his visit to Exercise Forging Sabre 2015, Dr Ng took a tour of the F-35 JSF squadrons as well its training academy and Dr Ng said he is pleased with the progress of the training programme.

“The more steady the production lines for JSF, the more boxes are ticked when we evaluate it but you know we are in no hurry to decide on the JSF,” he said.

Looking forward, he said that Singapore is in no hurry to decide on the F-35, and that the SAF’s current capabilities meet the country's medium-term needs.

“The platforms, we'll buy what we need,” said Dr Ng “F15s, F16s serve our need, we're evaluating the JSF. But the integration of the various aspects, just the fine tuning and what our chaps call the tactic, the ability to find precise options for specific targets and specific needs, is what will define our SAF so I think we're progressing very well and we'll just keep doing that.”
