Geylang Football Club appoints Tin Pei Ling as its advisor.

Apparently she's the first woman to hold such a post in the S League.

The last PAP politician to hold a senior post in the local football scene was Zainudin Nordin who served as President of the Football Association of S'pore until 2015.

Under him, the local football scene went further downhill.

This latest appointment just shows that local football clubs have no clue and no strategy.

I thank Geylang International Football Club for inviting me to be its adviser. When GIFC approached me, I was drawn to its focus on youth development and community outreach - both are close to my heart and I look forward to working with GIFC in these areas. Football is Singaporeans' favourite sports and I believe it is a great way of reaching out to the larger community. Players have to possess mental strength, resilience and perseverance, on top of physical strength and agility, in order to complete a game. They also have to demonstrate sportsmanship in the face of stiff competition. It's not easy. Yet, because of the challenges that players have to overcome, it makes football a very powerful way to build character in youths. Looking ahead, I wish GIFC all the best in the matches beginning next Monday!

[Special thanks to the awesome players today for the great fun in the field! We had a ball of a time *pun intended*]

SINGAPORE - Member of Parliament Tin Pei Ling was officially unveiled as Geylang International Football Club's adviser for the upcoming S-League season on Wednesday.

Ms Tin, the MP for MacPherson Single Member Constituency, is the first woman to hold the post.

She will work with the club in areas such as community outreach, corporate social responsibility, grassroots football and fund-raising activities.

Electronics company Epson also signed a one-year sponsorship agreement with the club, and will provide printing and imaging equipment and services to the club's running operations as the main sponsor.

With the season kicking off on Saturday, new coach Hasrin Jailani is among a host of changes at Geylang, who finished last season eighth out of ten teams.

The Eagles' S-League squad for the season was also introduced by club captain and new signing Isa Halim at a media conference held at Safra Tampines. Other signings include veterans Daniel Bennett and Indra Sahdan, while former LionsXII players Al-Qaasimy Rahman and Sahil Suhaimi are among the new young faces at the club.
