Istana opens doors to public on second day of Chinese New Year
During the open house on Feb 9, there will be performances by a lion dance troupe, a Chinese acrobatics team and a Chinese calligraphy demonstration, among others.

SINGAPORE: The Istana grounds will be open to the public on Feb 9 from 8.30am to 6pm in celebration of Chinese New Year, the President's Office announced in a media release on Tuesday (Feb 2).

However, the Istana Lawn will be closed for renovation works until the end of the year.

On Feb 9, there will be performances by the Singapore Management University's Hip Hop dance group Eurhythmix, Swiss Cottage Secondary School's NCC Command Band Swiss Winds, Evergreen Secondary School's Chinese Orchestra, Shan Long Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe, as well as Suzhou Performing Arts Group's Chinese Acrobatics team, among others.

The President's Office said there would be a Chinese calligraphy demonstration and a display of birds by Wildlife Reserves Singapore as well.

Members of the public can also sign up for the Nature Guided Walk at the Istana to understand the grounds' flora, fauna and biodiversity, or take a guided tour of the Istana main building.

Visitors also have the option of going on a self-guided tour with the help of the "Istana Garden Walk" mobile application. One can find a self-guided Plants Trail, as well as maps for Places of Interest around the Istana within the app, the press release said.

Entry to the Istana grounds is free for Singaporeans and Singapore permanent residents, while other visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of S$2 per person. So GIAN PNG!

Additional fees will apply for guided tours. Those wishing to tour the state room, banquet hall and reception room in the Istana main building will have to pay the following fees:


The following fees apply for the Nature Guided Walk, which is conducted by volunteers. Tours begin every hour from 10am to 4pm, according to the President's Office. All fees collected will be donated to charity.


The last entry to the Istana grounds on Feb 9 will be at 5pm, according to the President's Office.
