MD: As you know Peter, we are one of the most established golf retailers/wholesalers in this region. Besides golf retail, we also run and operate a few golf driving ranges. My personal connection in a public listed company, “ABC Co Ltd” shared with me that the company has already planned to build an 18-hole golf course in the suburb of Kunming City. Besides the golf course, they are also building and selling chalets which are situated within the vicinity of the golf course. Investors of this project get the opportunity to own a property and also become a life member of the golf course. Kunming is known as an “Eternal Spring City” because of its wonderful weather all year round with an average temperature of 18C. Such wonderful weather is very conducive for golfing activities.

Me: What has ABC Co Ltd got to do with our business? And how are we to complement them in their business venture in Kunming.

MD: Peter, my connection is leveraging on our business expertise to help convert part of the Kunming Sports Stadium in the heart of Kunming into a night driving range. The Driving Range will complement the 18 course golf they are building in the suburb of Kunming. It is more convenient to operate the Driving Range in the city area.

Me: Oh I see. So, I presume ABC Co Ltd is asking us to help run the golf driving range on a joint venture.

MD: Yes, we need to throw in a certain sum of money for this joint venture. I am not too certain whether the joint venture will be successful, and also there is no market at the moment in Kunming to let us gauge whether running a Driving Range is profitable.

Me: Ok. I can see the big picture now. So I take it that you are asking me whether I would like to take up the challenge to go to Kunming to help oversee the construction/fitting of the Driving Range until it is ready to open for business. And the estimated opening of the driving range is about 3 to 6 months. That is the reason why you have asked me whether I can take up the assignment for an initial period of 3 months.

MD: Yes Peter, you are right. So, I would like you to think about this important assignment carefully, and get back to me on your decision.

Me: Ok Mr. Tan, let me go back and ponder over it during the weekend, and I will get back to you on the following Monday. I can understand that the project is already in its blueprint, and a firm commitment is required.

On Monday morning, I walked into the MD room.

Me.: Mr. Tan, I will take up the challenge.

Mr. Tan: Good. Please go and meet Mr. Fung of ABC Co Ltd this Friday morning. Mr. Fung is the group project manager of the joint venture. He will get his executive to see to your logistics viz flight, hotel, and apartment that you will eventually put up.

On Friday morning, I stepped into ABC Co Ltd corporate office and asked to see Mr Fung.

You will work with a few fellow Singaporeans in ABC Co. to supervise and monitor the construction of the Driving Range, Pro Shop and Sports Medicine Centre. You are your company only representative in this joint venture project. The office in Kunming Stadium is already set up and manned by several Kunming natives.

Mr. Fung: OK, you can now see my executive who will explain in details the flight and the hotel that you will put up for the first 2 nights.

Executive: Hi Peter, here is your flight ticket, and your Holiday Inn hotel check in details. You will depart via Silkair in the afternoon of 1 March. The company van will pick you and the Singaporean counterparts at the hotel lobby on Mar 2 for work at the Kunming Stadium.

Mar 1 Evening Plane landed at Kunming Intl Airport. Company driver picked me up and drove me to Holiday Inn in Kunming City Centre. My place of work at Kunming Stadium is within walking distance from the hotel.

My Singaporean counterparts would only meet me the next morning at the hotel lobby; thereafter we would take the company transport to our work place at Kunming Stadium.

In my next few episodes and until I wrap up the entire story, you may be wondering why I can remember certain details like places, dates and time of each scenario so vividly even though things happened many many years ago.

Let me share with you the reason why.

When I was in Kunming, I took the efforts to record down on a daily basis on writing papers my encounter there. I kept this memorable information many years in my car boot, and I was unwilling to discard them. I just need to retrieve the information and use it to write my memoirs here with a certain degree of accuracy. And dont expect me to sensationalize the sex acts. The night temperature in March, which is spring in Kunming, was 6 degree Celsius. Although I had my jacket on, I still felt cold after alighting from the cab and walking towards 小雷 rented room.

18 Mar Sat Night

I kept on reminiscing the wonderful moments that I spent with 小雷 four nights ago at her place, and were longing to meet her again.

I bade 小雷 a hurried farewell as I had to rush in to board the flight. That was the very last time I ever saw her as I never had the chance to go back to Kunming again for work assignment.

When I was back in Singapore, I continued to communicate with 小雷 through letters and paging, the old fashioned and only method of communication in those days before face book, whatsapp, we chat or QQ were invented.

After several months of such archaic communication, I decided to stop further communication as I did not see the point in carrying the distant relationship further as I would never have the opportunity to go to Kunming to see her again. Furthermore, she had confided in me during our communication that being a native of Zhejiang, she would go back to her hometown, possibly to find a Mr. Right and get married.

I can only cherish the wonderful moments that I had spent with 小雷 while in Kunming. I have totally forgotten her years ago, but with these memoirs, I am rekindling the fun time I had with her.

Unfortunately no such opportunity back home. That long running sex encounter was really a rare and opportune happening in my life time. That was the one and only overseas assignment in my entire working career, and I capitalized on it.

22 Mar Evening (One Night Stand)

My room mate, an old Singaporean executive, moved out of our shared apartment, and left for Spore as his assignment was completed. I had the benefit of solely occupying the apartment until the next executive moved in.
