Not to knock on your post or direct offence, but you realize that the word FL(Freelancer) has in recent years in Singapore evolved to similarity with the word prostitute. There is absolutely no need to ask an FL whether there is a difference, since i doubt many of them even wish to evaluate a degradatory term of their personal self. Self denial is an instinctive approach many individuals possess and in different aspects call off relevant social stigma when directed personally. We are not viewing them in any way we want, however the fact remains they are selling their bodies for monetary gain. Streetwalkers, callgirls, prostitutes, freelancers are one and the same. The reason why most WL use the term FL is due to negative image the word prostitutes conjures. Many people views prostitutes as a degrading job. Comeon!! Judging by the replies following the initial statement made, it's my opinion Bkoolz and the rest might be talking on cross purposes. In all fairness Bkoolz posted a relatively inflammatory statement which led people to reiterate and retaliate in an antagonistic fashion.

However along the way the argument somehow shifted to the lack of respect and disdain for prostitutes. In this aspect the forthcoming debate would consist of a heavily greyed area. Multiple variables on each arguing party would hit strong points.

According to social psychological theory, a combination of social and psychological factors cause some women to become prostitutes.

1)Predisposing factors, which are exemplified by unpleasant experiences such as struggling with parental promiscuity, parental neglect, child abuse, or other traumatic events that cause psychological problems.

2)Attracting factors, which are exemplified by the expectation based on popular belief that a woman can have an easy life or earn substantially financially.

3)Precipitating facts which are exemplified by social situations as being unemployed, meeting a prostitute friend, or being pressured by a pimp to sell sex.

These factors however cannot be assumed to be set in stone across our vast disparity between countries, culture, religious beliefs and way of life. Most of which are influenced by a simple and basic theory, the financial stability of the country in itself following that of the individual.

In Singapore these factors should be looked upon differently, our economy and size with regards to financial gain is considerably stable compared to worldwide numbers. As such, common theories related to prostitution cannot be applied here. Statistically speaking a vastly higher percentage of singapore's prostitutes can be attributed to an attracting factor. Precipitated theories can also be applied, however the cardinal moralistic viewpoint leads us to understand a hard and fast belief, in an economically stable country one can never starve.

Interviews conducted and compiled statistically have shown most prostitutes from wealthy countries are mostly doing it, for the lack of a gentler term; easy and fast money. There is also the rationale certain individuals do enjoy the profession. In which case unfortunately the self delusional trait has to be emphasized. It is relatively simple to translate heavy financial burden towards a self consoling rationale that one has no other outs and is basically forced towards prostitution,all social and upbringing factors disregarded.

The increasing incidence of prostitution in various economically stable countries have been attributed to our evolution towards culture and dissolvement of old standing moral boundaries. Consider the rate of sexual activity that goes on before marriage for example, the inevitable seeking of "One Night Stands", and similar activity. Prostitution is merely one step further in the chain of degenerative behaviour which merely brings about negative moral grounds but has the advantage of financial gain with ease.
