SINGAPORE — A 42-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly cheating more than 30 taxi drivers in separate incidents since May this year, said the police in a press statement yesterday (Oct 8).

The suspect is believed to have booked or flagged taxis, and would later direct his taxi driver-victims to stop over at a food centre before proceeding to his intended destination.

He then allegedly borrowed between S$30 to S$50 from them, claiming that he did not have enough money to pay for his food.

After receiving the cash, the suspect is believed to have absconded without both returning the borrowed amount and paying the taxi fare.

Following ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers arrested the man at Blk 180C Marsiling Road on Wednesday.

He will be charged in court today for cheating — an offence that is punishable with a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
