This letter was cc to TOC with the mail addressed to People’s Action Party candidate, Lee Bee Wah.

By a resident of Nee Soon GRC

Dear Lee Bee Wah,

I would like to highlight to you directly on how your PAP activists seem to have grossly violated resident’s privacy.

I received the campaign advertisement card from your campaign team yesterday.

The card was placed on the handle of my door’s gate. If you look closely at the advert card it clearly states my FULL NAME as per my NRIC and spells out my FULL HOME ADDRESS (I have blacked it out for my privacy). While I have also received the Worker’s Party candidate card the one from your team has my personal details printed on it. While I admire the personal touch that you probably wanted to achieve, you have actually lost my vote for violating my privacy.

Here are a few key reasons how I feel violated:

1) There were no stamps affixed on the card so it was definitely not posted to me via SingPost. Thus there was no reason to print my name and address on the card.

2) Your activists have clearly exploited some resident database to be able to personalise your campaign advertisement. This may potentially be in violation of Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). My full name as per NRIC and full address is clearly printed on the card. I find this highly intrusive. This is so wrong…!

3) By placing the card on my gate handle, you have allowed any passer-by or thief to acquire my personal information. Thus your team has not placed resident’s interest above your party interest.

4) I have a feeling that the town council database is being exploited. I can’t say for sure, so I would like you to clarify this point.

5) By printing my name and address on the advertisement which is clearly a replica of what the actual ballot paper would look like, you give me the perception that my vote is not secret and the secrecy of my vote is jeopardised.

6) Having spoken to my elderly neighbours who were leaning towards voting for the opposition, namely Worker’s Party, they are now concerned that their vote is not really secret. If this was the intended purpose it appears to be quite hypocritical given that you mentioned in your Facebook post that it was wrong to mislead the elderly.

If you must exploit town council database then please may I humbly request that you slip the advertisement under my door. This way my personal information is not within reach by people who mean harm.

It is also really unfair for the opposition who do not have access to such resources and machinery.

I think I am more certain then ever who I should vote for to run Nee Soon GRC
TOC has confirmed with volunteers living in Nee Soon GRC that they have received the same card for their flat.
