While it may not be surprising that WP has more tweets than all the other opposition parties combined – it is after all the only opposition party with elected MPs in the last Parliament – what is interesting is that according to Twitter, there have been 40% more tweets about WP than PAP.

At the last election – albeit a by-election and that for an SMC (Punggol East) – WP’s Lee Li Lian polled 54.50% of the valid votes to 43.73% for PAP’s Koh Poh Koon, giving her a victory margin of 10.77%. This means that Ms Lee was more popular than Dr Koh by 24.63% (10.77/43.73 X 100%).

Although one by-election and one Twitter trend are not statistically significant, the numbers 24.63% and 40% do give food for thought.

Has WP become more popular than ever?

Has PAP’s popularity decreased while WP’s has increased?

Indeed, has WP’s popularity over PAP increased, despite the incessant bashing it has received at the hands of PAP ministers and the Ministry of National Development over the AHPETC affair?

Has the “WP can’t manage a town council, let alone a country” narrative backfired on PAP?

Are Singaporeans sympathetic to WP’s plight as first-time managers of a town council?

Do Singaporeans think that PAP has tried to “fix” WP?

What do you think?
