Hi,

I feel slightly embarrassed to ask about issues which have seemingly been
addressed over and over again – but feel unsettled without a definitive answer.
I’m extremely sorry if I’ve offended or annoyed anyone with my thread /my
question.

I am 18 this year, and I have Singapore PR, citizenship of a foreign country
and PR of a second foreign country (which I might migrate to permanently in
2016, after finishing my A levels).

From what I’ve read, I understand that a trip down to the ICA to renounce my
PR would be sufficient for me to clear NS obligations – but since I did not
perform well for my NAPFA, my enlistment date might end up being in the earlier
days of December (for the PTP BMT batch), right after I’ve finished my A
levels.

While there’s around 1 week from the end of my examinations to the earliest
enlistment date of the December intake, I’m uncertain if that would be enough
time for the entire renunciation procedure to take place.

A part of me fears immigration might try to keep me in a sort of purgatory,
and I’d end up having to do NS anyway.

I’m also unsure of how long the immigration department would allow me to stay
in Singapore past my date of renunciation – and if I’d able to come back in the
future for holidays (the country of my citizenship does not allow me visa-free
access).

PS: As much as I want to stay in Singapore for NS and beyond (as I truly love
this country, and I’ve formed strong friendships that I would have a hard time
leaving behind).

Whoever is left of my family in Singapore plans to move to a third foreign
country next year and our house would be sold.

So I’d have nowhere to stay. my mother has also made it clear that she would
not support me financially if I stayed behind – or maintain contact with me at
all.

I’m in an difficult position – I love Singapore very much, but it makes
little sense for me to stay.

TLDR: I’m a PR of Singapore possibly enlisting in December. If I renounce my
PR the week before, would there be enough time for the procedure to fully run
through?

How long can I stay in Singapore past my renunciation? Thank you!
