There is only one absolute in this coming General Election, and that is, the
PAP Government must be made to account for all their failings, their lies &
deceit, their arrogance, their overbearing and conceited attitude, their lack of
respect for Singaporeans who pay them their insane salaries (by legalised
force), and their haughtiness in lording over those who are marginalised by
their policy of Growth At All Costs. Please feel free to add your own
adjectives.

With the objective in place, the next step was to avoid multi-cornered
contests.

We are glad that we are seeing some magical force at work, allowing for the
very first time in our election history, the agreement by the Opposition Parties
to avoid multi-cornered fights.

Although we applaud the consensus, we are also somewhat disheartened that
some of our favourite opposition parties are not coming to our towns.

For example, this admin was hoping the SDP would contest Bukit Batok when it
was known that it is going to be one of the newly drawn out SMCs. The SDP’s
announcement that it would contest in the SMC was hence met with joy.

Alas, this joy was short lived when the realization dawned that the area
would still be part of Jurong GRC and that NSP would most likely be the party to
fight the PAP here.

It is here that political maturity has to come to the fore.

What is our objective again?

We have to remind ourselves that we are seeking accountability and answers
from the PAP, answers which they have not shared, have even hidden away,
pretending not to hear many of our call.

So, in the example above, the approach is simple.and straightforward: vote
for NSP or any Opposition party in town.

However, in some other estates, the situation may not be as
straightforward.

Take for example Pasir Ris.

We hear that SingFirst, the stronger opposition party with powerhouse figures
like Presidential Candidate Tan Jee Say and famous Physician Ang Yong Guan, had
backed down and deferred to the SDA.

We all know that SDA was formed by Mr Chiam See Tong (who was eventually
ousted and replaced by Desmond Lim) to give to Singaporeans what we wanted in GE
2001.

It drew together some smaller and inconsequential political parties together
with moderate weighted ones like NSP and SPP. It successfully returned Mr Chiam
into Parliament that year.

When the Workers’ Party began to grew in stature, Singaporeans began to throw
their support behind them because finally, here was a political party which had
an agenda for Singaporeans.

With that, the alliance party became a nonentity; more so with Mr Chiam
returning to his SPP and NSP withdrawing from it.

Till today, it may not be far fetch to think (and this is a personal take)
that the SDA has become a convenient tool for the PAP to tap On, by planting its
troop among the enemy’s rank to conquer from within.

Desmond Lim

Take a look at Desmond.

We mean no offence.

He looks as localised as the Singaporean next to him. But when he opens his
mouth to speak, all illusions of eloquence are shattered, undermining any
confidence we might have in him.

And to think Singfirst has given way to him?

We dare suggest Mr Tan Jee Say and the rest of the opposition political
parties to have a wholesale blanket disregard for that Party. This is critical
as it comes at a time when the PAP has in recent months gone on a strong
offensive with its pork barrel politics to buy votes ahead of the GE.

We want accountability and we can neither imagine nor fathom Desmond and his
followers to do that for us.

Ignore the SDA as a political party would be our call. The SDA only mattered
with Chiam See Tong as leader.

Without him, it is only an empty shell and the devil’s playground. Please
give Pasir Ris residents and voters a real choice. They too would want to vote
for themselves.
