On the timing of the elections, Dr Ng Eng Hen rejected suggestions that the PAP was capitalising on the Golden Jubilee celebrations and the death of founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, which generated an outpouring of grief earlier this year.

“We have begun preparations for the General Election in earnest for four years. The record speaks for itself. We did not cobble up this team on a whim,” he said.

“We thought very carefully about where we put our candidates, who best fits the profile, but we still have to govern in the meantime...it’s not easy being organising secretary as well as having to oversee the National Day Parade celebrations, so I just ask for a little sympathy,” he said with a smile.

His founding PM would have said: Elections need to be held within a specific time frame. As the ruling party, we get to decide when to hold it. It is not our responsibility to help the opposition parties to do well. Any time is a good time for us. Globally, every country faces big challenges. Having got a good slate of candidates, we feel that it is timely to start exposing them to the situation so that we are all prepared and ensure that Singapore continues to remain strong.

LKY would NOT have:

Asked for sympathy! Has the PAP shown any sympathy for the people who have been suffering? It's not easy being the organising secretary? WTF! He is doing it on company time, for which tax payers are underwriting.

Highlighted the fact that he is also in charge of the National Day Parade celebrations! We have five or six ministers in the PM's office!!!!!
What are they doing? Stealing toothpicks? Chasing rats in East Coast GRC? What this fact tells you is that the cabinet is totally devoid of real talent.
