Prime Minister’s AMK GRC Team in political turmoil

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s Ang Mo Kio (AMK) GRC is facing an exodus of three existing AMK MPs to make way for three new favourites of the PM. According to the government-controlled media The Straits Times today, two veteran MPs, namely Seng Han Thong and Yeo Guat Kwang, respective in-charge of Yio Chu Kang and AMK-Hougang, may retire although they declined to comment when interviewed. A third veteran MP, Inderjit Singh, tendered his resignation over social media Facebook two days before (July 24) instead of using the ruling party’s proper channel for public announcement. A fourth MP speculated to be removed is Intan Azura Mokhtar, who was flaked for supporting her grassroot leader PRC YangYin who is currently under police investigation for cheating a old lady multi-millionaire.

With these four poised to be missing in the coming General Election, the government-controlled media The Straits Times then introduced two potential newbie candidates for AMK GRC and dedicated an introductory article for them and other amateur PAP new faces.

The first is self-proclaimed “Son of Punggol” 43-year-old Dr Koh Poon Poh, the loser of Punggol East SMC in 2013. He lost largely because of his out-of-touch comments during his election campaigning, saying every Singaporean today owns a car and over-exaggerated how “poor” he was when he couldn’t even afford to buy a pair of chopsticks when he just bought his first three-room HDB flat at 26 years old. Dr Koh Poon Poh is poised to replace Seng Han Thong.

The second potential candidate is 44-year-old Darryl David, a former Mediacorp gameshow host and currently a Deputy Director for Temasek Polytechnic. He has never done a single walkabout before and is a freshman in AMK GRC. Although he is poised to replace Inderjit Singh as part of the minority candidate requirement, he has never stepped foot in AMK’s Kebun Bahru before.

Over at Sembawang GRC, a new potential candidate spotted is 36-year-old Amrin Amin, a corporate lawyer who is poised to replace Intan Azura Mokhtar. Like Darryl David, Amrin Amin is an amateur politician who has never stepped foot in Ang Mo Kio GRC to campaign. Today is his first appearance.

The other Sembawang GRC potential candidate is 45-year-old Ong Ye Kun, the loser candidate for Aljunied GRC in 2011. He is relatively unknown and have been silent since his loss in 2011 until recently.

Over at Tanjong Pagar GRC, with the death of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, the team introduced a new face never been seen before: 47 year old Joan Pereira, an executive of Temasek Holding’s philanthropy arm Temasek Cares. Joan Pereira joined the PAP only in May, and is still learning the ropes as an understudy of another PAP MP, Indranee Rajah. However, the leader of Tanjong Pagar GRC is not Indranee Rajah who is a Senior Minister, but newbie Minister-without-portfolio Chan Chun Sing.

Then at Tampines GRC, another loser candidate of Hougang SMC by-elections in 2012, Desmond Choo has been parachuted into the GRC, rumored to replace MP Irene Ng.

Another Tampines GRC potential candidate poised to replace former Minsiter Mah Bow Tan in Tampines East is Cheng Li Hui, the vice-chariman of the Citizen Consultative Committee of Tampines East. Cheng Li Hui is relatively unknown and has only recently started introducing herself to Tampines residents.
