SINGAPORE — SingPass users should be wary of fradulent emails, which claim that their PINs have been suspended, warned the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) today (June 25).

In a Facebook post, the IDA said that some SingPass users have received an email titled “SingPass account security info verification” from “SingPass Government [[email protected]]”. The email stated that the recipients’ SingPass PINs had been suspended and gave a link for them to click on to confirm their email address.

“Please note that this is a phishing email, which is NOT sent by SingPass,” the IDA posted on Facebook. “Should you receive this email, do not click on the link, simply delete it and contact SingPass at [email protected].”

Phishing is a criminally fraudulent process whereby a cybercriminal attempts to get users to divulge sensitive personal information via a website or mobile application such as their user identities and passwords, and credit card details, according to the SingPass website.
